cool find I found one just like it several years ago, I think its some type of coral or something similar I found mine near a bunch of other fossiles but it did look just like my big toe.

It was fairly common practice amongst some American Indian tribes to wear necklaces made up of the fingers of advesaries as "trophies"...similar to collecting scalps. I have seen pictures in the past of indians wearing necklaces of fingers ...that being said , I think you may have a petrified finger or toe on your hands (no pun intended...lol)

If my memory serves me correctly , I saw one of these necklaces on display at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington DC.

oh if its the real deal ---- its not a thing to be triffled with --the injured dead persons spirit might return for it* or the warroir who's trophy you now "claim" for your own that he won in battle might be miffed -- that your claiming his "prize" that he risked his life for ---or the old indain lady that cut it off in "revenge" for the loss of a son, husband , freind or lover and cast it away

hopefully its NOT real --its just a bit of stone -- a very very creepy looking bit of stone.

ps if weird stuff starts occuring --put it back with a bit of tobbacco as a "peace offering"

I don't think human beings have been around long enough for their fingers to be fossilized? But it is a strange and interesting rock. Looks like river rock to me? Monty

Hi all ! :)

It is definately a fossil !

It can NOT be a petrified human finger or toe.
It has to be many, many millions of years older in order to petrify !!!

Funny thou that the fossil looks like a human finger or toe !!

Super find !

Geologic concidence.

Bone ossifies (fossils). Meat rots. It certainly wouldn't "petrify" in a nice plump fingertip. It would be kind of shriveled up.

This is an easy riddle to solve, with no pesky mathematics required.

When you boil it in water with potatoes, does it make soup?

Good one, Plehbah!

I was gonna say - it's one of 'em COPROLITE things - -
petrified dinosaur dropping.
Though I'm not sure about the dinosaur part,
OR the petrified part, for that matter!

(Clue: Bad joke!) :icon_jokercolor:
