Does anybody have any good ideas on getting permission from the
land owner to metal detect on their property when most of the land
owner I contact are out of state and only be contacted by phone.

Recently, I ran into a situation where I had permission from the
land owner, but nothing in writing, since it was done on the phone.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, also,
different ideas on how to approach a land owner to metal detect on
their property.

In most cases Verbal Permission is enough.

Just have the Name & Phone number you called on hand,
in case Questioned. It is rare to be called a Liar
and be asked to leave if you give the person questioning you
the info.

IF you carry a Cell phone (Which I recommend, anyway)
You can also say ;

"I have their Phone Number, I'll call them back right now
and they can tell you"

Odds are they will say, "no that's fine, just checking"

I'v only been questioned twice that I remember.

First time I got permission for a field.
I had the owners name in my truck,
but rememberd it.

I believe it may have been his son, pulled up,
Come over real fast like :D and asked,
"What are you's looking for ?" in a sort of
upset voice, but was hard to tell.
I dropped the owners name & said he gave us
Permission, and he left as fast as he arrived.

the other time was at a Church Grove.
The Grounds Keeper gave verbal permission.
A grouchy old lady from the Church, questioned me.
I said the Groundskeeper said it was OK.
She said she was going to check.
Her friend, a Nicer lady, asked what I found.
I said some old Silver from the 1800's
The Grouchy lady Perked up & asked IF I was going to
Donate some to the church, The Nicer one
toned in with or at least let us see them.

Which of course I agreed to do, but never seen either one again :(

Thanks jeff thats exactly what happened to me the owners son
asked but the cell no# was an answering machine. And around here
if an Indian burial site is found you can't build or even move an inch of dirt. Thats why even land oweners won't give permission.
