Chadeaux, as long as you maintain insurance, pre-existing does not apply. It was the insurance portability act thingy, I'll put a link to help explain better.
It's called "credible coverage", the insurance company can supply you with a letter of credible coverage. Also, certain conditions may not be pre-ex, if you have not had a re-occurance within a specific time-frame(2 or 3 yrs).
This is why, when you have pre-ex, it's important not to let your coverage lapse(most are forced to pay the Cobra).

It's possible you may could get a health plan through a regular insurance company, that will be comparable to the Obamaplan. I don't know. But, it also seems too, that for a family of 3, ya'll may fall below the poverty guidelines, that your child could be covered under Medicaid? It's been about 5, 6 yrs since I worked medical/healthcare(I billed Medicaid for hospitals, help get ppl approved for Medicaid/disability), some of the rules/guidelines may have changed since then. Are you not a Vet, eligible for VA care?
Try not to let this get to you, and aggravate any pre-ex conditions!
If I can be of any type help/support, please feel free to pm me. Hang in there!
Well, seeing my income level, I'm sure you understand that I cannot afford the insurance to begin with. I also cannot afford the COBRA premiums.
As of January 1, my ONLY alternative will be through the exchanges with the hope that I can get subsidy to pay the cost.
My wife and daughter go to the local clinic (sliding fee) for most treatment.
BTW, Medicaid no longer exists as of January 1, 2013 as well ... persons being treated for Breast and Cervical cancer lose their benefits come January 1 because Medicaid (according to the state of Arkansas DHS) ENDS on December 31, 2013.
