Well the nasty f word struck today....FROST!!! :(:(:( Had to dig down thru an inch of it but did hit a yard of an 1800's house today. First find was the 1818 Large cent and after digging that out I re scanned the hole and still got a solid hit, dug around more with my hand and caught a glint of gold....my heart beat picked up and as I cleaned the dirt off, there sitting there was a gold wedding ban, I smiled and said the detecting gods are smiling on me, looking at it I noticed it looked alot like mine, I then realized the detecting gods have a rotten sense of humor, for it was in fact my ring, must have got caught on a root and pulled off as I was digging with my hand and I didn;t notice it...well at least I didn't lose it...:) I then found 3 IH's, 1903, 1905 and no date one, alos found a locket that says G on the back...looks plate. Also found 7 wheaties 1910, 1917, 1918, 1930 and 3 1940's. AS the day ended I hit one area out front I ahd been over twice...got a solid signal and dug and down 8 inches the detecting gods made up for their sense of humor.....gold shimmered once again and this time it wasn;t my wedding ban....a class of 1940 Prospect Park High School ring. back says Martin 10K..not sure what the martin is?? It is also engraved with the intitials DHD...so now the research starts....found 3 Prospect Parks...one in PA, one in NJ, and another in Brooklyn...not sure if the owner is still alive, would be in his 80's now...but gotta try...:):) Hopefully the frost won;t get to deep yet and will be able to get out a few more times....

Those are some real nice finds MD!
I especially love the part of your story were you find your own ring..lol

Do some research on the HS ring.. Any initials inside? Year?

You can probadly go to the High School and get the persons name from a year book.

I would give the ring back if itt had intials in it.

Wow you had a great, great day. Looks like you found your field of dreams area. Especially like the class ring. I bet if you try really hard you can find the owner. I returned one class ring last summer to a guy from the class of 1946 in my local area.

Hope you find the owner and also hope you find many more goodies at this site.

Initials of DHD engraved inside, class of 1940, Prospect Park High School...now I just have to figure out which Prospect Park high school, for there are 3 Prospect Parks that I can find...one in Pennsylvania, one in New Jersey and a Prospect High School in Brooklyn. I figure the man that lost it would be about 83-84 right now if he is still alive, hopefully he is and I can find him, otherwise I may have to find his family and get the ring to a son or wife.....the search goes on. If anybody knows of any other Prospect Park High schools, please let me know or if you know or an e-mail for any of the above ones.

First off WOW. Getting chilly and you are ending the season with some big bangs. Awesome digs.

Good luck with that ring hope you can find the owner. Sounds like a very long shot, but I am sure you are up to the task of giving it a good shot.

Congratulations,

Good thing you retrieved your own wedding band or your wife might have gotten suspicious!!! LOL

It would be so rewarding (in a much different way) if you could return that ring to its owner or his relative. I bet they would be ecstatic to have it back. Sometimes the gratification of returning an item is much more than the monetary value we might ever gain from something, but I'm sure we all know that from our own experiences. Anyhow, once you find the correct city and then the owner's name, you can find an obituary (if the man is indeed a goner) which should list the names of the relatives and a general idea of where they live. Good luck with the return.

You've certainly got some nice keepers in that haul.

Very nice finds....hopefully you can find the owner of that ring
