PART 2 - "This Old House"

Well, the weather here in NC was cold and rainy today, so I decided to go back to the old property I've been searching since I could hunt with a roof over my head. As you can see the house is about on it's last leg. Other pictures provided are of some of the outbuildings and outhouse too.
Someone has discovered my secret hunting place, because a lot of boards had been ripped off the walls since I was there last week. I started ripping out boards that there around windows and doorways, that hadn't been checked yet. Well, guess what? It was my lucky day! In a small room extension (pantry?) off the kitchen in back, I saw the boards over the doorway had not been pulled yet. From inside the room I pulled a few boards and noticed a flat bottle sitting on the ledge over the doorway. It was covered with mice nesting material. (See pictures) My heart was pumping now. I slowly pulled out the nesting material, and the bottle. There was also some kind of key (?) up there, along with a jar lid (Boyd's Genuine Porcelain). Unfortunately, no cache. Darn! I just wonder why this was sealed from both sides, and if perhaps coins used to be in the jar lid? I know this isn't a mega-treasure, but to me it was an exciting find. In the outhouse, I dug up the belt buckle, buttons, etc.
In one of the sheds, I found a corked bottle with white powder in it. I have no idea what it is inside? I doubt this was Cheech & Chong's old place. ;D Well, that was my day. No big finds, but a ton of fun exploring.
Does anyone know what that key looking thing is that was behind the wall? It is heavy and looks like lead. Note the air bubbles in it when it was made. There is also a "+" stamped into it. Help?
Another long-winded story from me.

Well now it could also be the key to the metal box buried in the yard somewhere. I sure hope it is and you find it
Is there a basement under this old house

Raptor,
No basement. I wish there were. Only about 1 foot of space between the floor and the dirt ground underneath.

Re: PART 2 - "This Old House"

it wasnt a very old gun, it was a .32, 5 shot revolver, it was only worth about $20 according to a guy i know who is into guns, he had it cleaned and test fired at a dealer, and i did buy bullets for it which cost $30! ::) so about a year later i sold the bullets and gun to a different guy at work for $50.

Jeff,
I went over there last week. I'm very uneasy going inside now. The walls are separating, and the floors are buckling pretty good. I think the only thing holding it up is the brick chimney in the center of the house.
I think I'll wait until this property gets leveled before I search it again. Although it looks like it is out in the boonies, there are actually new car lots on all four sides of the property. It's just a matter of time before it goes. Good luck on your place.

What a neat looking place to search. Just be careful out there!

I agree with the clock key idea.
