Over the past couple years of detecting in Baltimore City there have been three instances when I've had a nickel in the hole with a Barber quarter; the most recent occurred this past Saturday. This time it was an 1888 V-nickel that was recovered first and then, after replacing the plug I was still getting a good signal. Dug an adjacent plug and found the other coin....an 1895 Barber quarter. The coin looks like it was dropped around 1900.

Much earlier in the hunt I dug an old suspender clip. Contemporary with digging the coin spill I retrieved a marble from a hole.

These finds represented several firsts for me from this site: silver, suspender clip and marble.

Here's the video of these finds and more from that hunt.

Thx moosescout! I've done very little at Leakin. Went there this year for Barney Dolt's planted hunt. That's a vast area to cover but I'm sure there are better spots along the river to hunt.

That's too funny. I was there for Barney's hunt also. I was the one with the shoulder harness on. It was a fun hunt but a lot of other trash in the area made for a lot of work.

Thx JerseyDigger19! ...and congrats on your finds in 2017. You've had a very productive year.

I agree. At the Barney hunt I seemed to be pretty good at finding his pennies and the 3-ringers. Very generous of Mr. Dolt.

Thx KJP462! It was special in many ways and as you noted, the condition was one of them.

Thanks Brad! Coil-ground hours is the key, as you know. I'm really comfortable with the F75. Have never run it in all-metal. Sensitivity is usually around 93 and I'm keeping the disc low enough to still hear nickels.

Yep, me too. Then as I was leaving I decided to check the rock wall where we started. Apparently no one had because I found 2 war nickles, a couple of silver quarters, a silver dime and a silver fifty cent piece. Made my day.

Congratulations on your excellent finds. Liked the video. Glad to see someone else has plenty of mud caked on their gear.

Very nice barber - for me, early barbers are as hard to come by as seated. Cheers
