Very cool find. It's widely believed to be a curtain tie back or clothing hook...they come in all different designs. I've found scallop shell and wolf head motifs.

Yes, I have seen/found all types, but this is the first 'Head' I have seen. (I really like it, add to the list) They went on wood, one can assume, but would look out of place on any furniture, the clothing hook seems unlikely for these larger ended type (like the shell etc), so curtain tie back seems the most logical. However, I'm not sure anyone really knows.

If that's what it is you should be able to find a match with a head online, because they aren't really rare... and I too have dug one. In fact, I've seen the same one I dug at least twice, so they are out there. I think I actually seen one on the same database.

Rarity has nothing to do with whether a correct ID exists, you should know that. (some of the most common things are the least studied)

You haven't even made a match yet, or probably spent much time, but will suggest it's quite possibly a common item that can't be ID'ed. That doesn't make much sense, and you should know that.

I believe this is the front to the one like I dug, and one I've seen a few times.

Nope, completely different.

Yes, it's broken.

No, maybe you didn't read, your own link - 'The base has a threaded opening'

Wasn't interested in spending that much time, but since you are, I can tell you the correct match is out there, because again it's not a rare item. Maybe once we find a few we'll decide if it's one of these common items with no ID.

You had the above logic, I countered it, that was all. You find it, as if it ain't rare, it will not take you long? (I'm not looking)

Yeah it's always quick to find something when you don't know what to call it. And for the record I'm not that interested and didn't plan to post again on this thread, but the tone of your post brought me back. Calling it furniture brass or a coat hook or whatever is good enough for me.

You started by quoting me:

I know I can't find one, you think you have seen it on the database.

You're right, I just left out the condescending part..."you should know that."

True. I only know a fraction of what I need to.
