Please help! Some need ID's and all need approximate values. Some are just cool and I'm showing off  lol. We have spent HOURS going through my Great Grandpa's collection. What you will see here isn't all of it, and there's another post in best finds with a list of random stuff we found (wheats, mercs, morgans, etc.). I'll be doing this in several posts because there's a LOT of pics (front and back stuff mostly)

This post contains 6 pics:
Front and back of a $100,000 confederate "fantasy" note. From what I understand it's basically fake money, but is there any collector's value to it?

The second set is front and back of a Morgan in basic uncirculated condition? Value? I have 3 or 4 more in various conditions, all have "liberty" visible.

The final set is a couple of neat pennies. My fiance said they were some kinda commemorative thing?

More detailed info on any of what I post is always welcome (I like learning as much as I can about this stuff lol)

next post coming up...

Moving on :tongue3:

The 2 reales from spain is pretty interesting, Not much on it from ebay but here a guy wants 100 bucks
and says its from mexico, LOL
http://cgi.ebay.com/1786-M-Mexico-2-Reales-Coin-KM-88-2-/130486077822

What we know (and don't tell him) is that this is a Spanish coin from Carlos III rein
http://www.coindatabase.com/coin_detail_pesetas.php?cdb=L170602
Both of these Carolus III coins are indeed minted in Spanish colonial Mexico. The M with the little o is the Mexico City mint mark.

One of her coins may be a Pistareen from Spain. I couldnt see in on my screen so I resized. There are so many coins its confusing.

Thanks, didn't see the back, gonna keep looking for this one, lol, its a tricky one.

Thanks BCH,

The examples I had were the mexican mint but the one she has I think was minted in spain.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all the links... I don't have time to look at everything at the moment because my computer keeps crashing, and I've gotta get some stuff taken care of before it gives me another blue screen of death. I have access to 2 other computers and a lap top, but the 2 other comps are frequently being used and my laptop is a pain in the butt lol.

As soon as I figure out what's going on I'll get back to this... I've also gotta spend the next 3 days getting my products ready for a festival this weekend... and I've gotta get some of my photography together so someone can tell me if it sucks or not lol

I think I've bit off more than I can chew... But I usually eat a lot anyways... :tongue3:

Yes I believe its a Pistareen minted in Spain, never intended for use in the colonies.
The mint and assayer marks need to be identified before we can place a value.

Your collection there is very eclectic, much like the collection my father in law put together. I will try to add a couple of helpful informations:

As expressed by a coin dealer, and 1921 Morgan will never be worth anymore than melt, unless it is super uncirculated. Check the mintage numbers. Same with 22 and 23 Peace. He said NEVER to take one of those unless you steal it. LOL

The No. Dakota are festival commemorative trade coins, used in the state or perhaps a specific town. Notice the expiration date. I have some I collected in Anchorage Ak ( 3 coins in red, white and blue plastic, good for a buck) 1867-1967, and Greeley Co (3 different styles of dollar sized bronze coins, good for a buck, 1871-1971. I find it interesting that a state or commumity is allowed to make coinage, but perhaps the expiration date gets by the law, and for the small investment, a lot of real money is put in the coffers for the celebration.

The 1/4 gold is something weird. Definately made to confuse, absolutely not gold, and I think was only meant to be put in a bezel. Like someone said, there were dozens of different and similar styles made.

The 1946 2 peso, as well as the 2 1/2 peso, and a couple of others are gold. In fact, rather than actual coinage, I have been told that all of the pieces are dated 1946 and are more "bullion" than coinage. Back when I purchased mine, it wasn't too much, but now it may be worth a buck or two. Maybe 20. Something, but nothing to write home about.

That is enough for me. Enjoy your new coin collection. Like someone said, most of the information you seek is readily available. Knock and it shall be opened unto you. Either there or here.

Yea the OP told us in the first post it was a Morgan. Im sure Allen was joking and so was I. ;D Its not considered uncirculated BTW. It looks in pretty good condition but there may be sctratches to affect the value. Its a common date. Dont clean it with anything other than dishsoap and water.

Lots of photos lots of replies, as to the confederate bill... I bought a packet of them over 20 years ago on a trip to lookout mountain, they are tourist trinkets... I do have a few real ones though, came from my granddads friend, the old guy had a trunk full of them, but who knows what happened when he passed over 30 years ago.

I'm going ahead and marking this as solved with a big THANK YOU to everyone. Figured I'd do it now while I have a few minutes, because I'm not gonna get back to this for a few weeks and I don't wanna forget again lol. Ah the joys of being a small business owner (I spend weeks preparing for festivals that I find out about at the last minute and barely sell anything at). Bad thing is, I'm in debt to myself. Good thing is, I'm not charging myself interest.

Thanks again for all the help everyone!
