Now I find my self pondering, did I bury my dogs with or without their tags or collars? I have not dug up a single dog take, I hope I don't ever dig one attached to the remains. I don't think I could handle that. A cat tag, no problem. But not a dog tag.

When I dug my "attached"dog it was kinda strange, even if he was in the ground over 60 years. Just put back the tag back and carefully coverd him back up. The sad thing is a couple of weeks later I went to detect the same area and someone had taken him out and carefully arranged his bones to form the dog. (Tag missing) had to be another detectorist. So here I am again burying the dog, luckily the next week he was coverd up with a extended sidewalk.

I never want to find a dead dog attached to a dog tag. That would be pretty disturbing.

I would leave the tag like you did. I can't believe somebody would dig up a dead dog and take its tag and just leave the thing out side. That's creepy!

Hello metaldecta. Nice tag. They are great to find, I have a couple from the 19-teens and 1920's but my oldest and bestest is shown below. I found it at a c.1880 in-city home site.

Thanks posting your find and HH. C9

Thank you for posting! Those are great. If I found one of those I would have a major panic attack!

My Pleasure, thanks for the reply. The tag I posted is a single find. They must have used the same tag a couple of years after 1885 and stamped the back "1887".

That's a true piece of history right there. I bet you are correct about how they reused the tag. Good luck in the future and find more cool relics!
