Hello all,

What a day...!! ;D It was a Long day for me but I got out and had a lot of fun. :D I got up around 10am ??? ::) I promised myself I would set my alarm and freeking go Metal Detecting. ;D :headbang: So I did, the first site I went to I hunted about 1.5 hours. I did not find much there a "wheat penny" :icon_scratch: but it's OK I had another back up site.

The next site I started hunting and found a clad quarter. :o So my hopes spiked a little, I continued to hunt with nothing much. I was getting a little upset... I hunted some more, moved to the side yard and dug a nice piece of sterling silver. :o ;D :D Marked and everything, its been cut or broken but its still a nice piece of marked sterling. ;D I checked for the head but could not find it.... >:(

Hunting some more not finding much I got a nice penny signal in the front of the house. It was a nice IH penny. ;D :o Looked around some more in the rest of the yard, not finding much. I moved to the front where I found the IH and I found another IH. ;D :D Then another penny signal ending up being a cool old razor. Dated 1912, I did not expect this at all... ;D Some how in today's hunt I found the lock its not that old it seem to say pat. 1992-1994. :icon_scratch: It looks a lot older than that but I guess not. :dontknow:

Oh well, I was hoping for more Silver Coins :( but could not find any. I got skunked with a few a 1965 quarter and a 1967 dime or two. ??? :blob8: Maybe at the next site I'll hit some more silver coins... :D  Here are some Pictures I hope you all enjoy them. Few... :tongue3: This is a lot of work ! :D

Keep @ it and HH!! :D ;D

It is engraved in the front Pearl, the only other marking on the back is E.H Hopkins... :icon_scratch: I presume the engraver, ROTFL :D You don't have to have a box around it. Lol, that was caused by the stamp, newer stamps don't have a box. If you look at other Gorham sterling and other makers on EBay they don't have boxes. :icon_study: I studied this for some time trying to learn marks and they both mean silver, today. The anchor used to be sideways but this changed over time.

Keep @ it and HH!!

Without the shaped boxes there would be no way of pinning down what year it was.

However, having just realised this is not meant to be an English hallmark (although very similar, to confuse people, maybe). I take back what I said. I have no clue on US marks even ones that closely copy ours.

Your basically right it is an American Company Copying English Hallmarks for looks and likely to confuse people. This is how Gorham did their mark. See this link near the end, http://www.modernsilver.com/basichallmarks.htm

Keep @ it and HH!!

Thats why I love it here, I just keep on learning :)

Seems like... :D Lol the more I study this, Rotfl. ;D It seems all the countries of the world has this system all messed up. :D Like the guy who has the ring marked 999.9 and the Copper Rings Marked 18k. :icon_scratch: I think this marking system is all screwed up from people changing things in time. People trying to make fakes and people trying to look good. ??? I think its almost impossible to tell what any thing is these days. ??? :icon_scratch: I have learned some things :icon_study: but it seems this is just messed up.

LOL, :D ;D

Keep @ I and HH!!
