Old school house...sure looked promising - updated pic

Mom got permission to hunt this old school house, just down the road from her house.
It sure looked promising. I had fantasies of us being the first detectorist to ever swing a coil there.
Well, you probably allready guessed that that was just a fantasy, because we weren't the first.

The grass was a little tall for most of the property, only leaving small areas to get your coil close to the ground.
We hunted for about an hour, and by this point we were both getting tired of the "getting up".
The "getting down" was easy.

Mom found a small button and a large caliber bullet. The only keeper for me was one button. We didn't find any coins and the only rings were the "pull-tab" type, but we had a good time.

I'm assuming a tornado probably got a hold of the old schoolhouse. What a great looking location. Don't give up on it so quickly, there is bound to be something there. Good luck!

Looks very promising. I too would crank up sensitivity, work the grounds in a pattern using pegs as markers for the area you are searching. Check out the local historical society for old photographs of the school and location of play ground. Good luck and good detecting.

What an interesting looking building. I wonder if it burned down? You are right, it has probably been hunted before, but that doesn't mean there isn't something still hiding there. That looks like a good place to go late in the fall or first thing in the spring, when the grass/weeds are at their lowest point.

Sure looks good...I know it's hard to hunt when the grass is so high! Makes it hard to search at all sometimes really without just plain whackin it down! I would be willing to bet there is alot of unfound stuff there exactly for that reason! Good luck to you Wolfman!

I think if you could get in there and mow that jungle down, grid it out, you'd find some coins!

Good Idea..or you could rehunt in fall or spring use it as a back up site to hunt again.

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for your comments.

We will go back and hunt it again, after it dries up a bit.
The ground was saturated with rain water, and I was having trouble pinpointing.
I didn't have my coin probe, and the only digger I had on me was my Hole-Hog.
There were 5 or 6 targets that I never did find. Maybe I will be able to retrieve those targets next time.

Oh yeah, the ticks are out already! Mom found one on her after we got back to her house, and we found 2 in the Jeep later!

I'd go back myself, what a great site, you may have to wait until Fall, but I think it will be worth the wait. How nice to get out with your Mom, hope my Dad goes with me some day. Great post Timberwolf!
