Hello all., I went out today on my lunch break to an old school house that I have found some late 1800's coins from. and also found rosies up to 1950. lol SO today I dug this unusual ring and was wondering if anyone may have any info on it. At first I thought it had a stone that was missing but looking closer that hole is on a pretty thick part of the ring and there is no fascets to hold a stone. the hole is about 1/16" in dia. has a slight bevel at the top and bottom side where it comes through the ring. Anyone have any info on this I would really appreciate it! it has a sun on the front where the whole is, rain on one side and flowers or plants growing up on the other side. it is probabbly worth noting it is solid and not stamped like a lot of the older kids rings.

I had been seeing it as a flower sprouting up depicting both sides of the stem and including lines of action. Essentially I reasoned that with sun and rain we get flowers, inline with what DubsChops believed them to be.
Now however, I do agree with shooting star, also with lines of action, like here: Photo: retro shooting star cartoon © lineartestpilot #27440898
But this makes me wonder what the other side is, as originally I thought it to be rain, but why in such an orderly pattern, and the shape of the "drops" doesn't look right. They almost look like they have wings (to me anyway).

I don't see raindrops at all on that side. They would have to be pretty weird raindrops to have all those pointy things coming off the sides. Besides... don't they look like they are connected? The shot is blurry, so it's hard to tell, but it looks like there are lines between them. To me, they look like a formation of some sort -- like flying geese or airplanes. Although my original thought was that they looked like fleur-de-lis or stylized lilies arranged in a pattern. The fleur-de-lis shows up in heraldry all the time, so it would make sense on a ring like that.

I'm still holding out for the Archangel Michael, though, on the other side. :icon_thumleft:

Please "Speaka ino Enlishia " because I don't like your tone or your attitude . Breezie and you both have the right to express your opinions and I myself am quite a restoration expert and would never attempt to restore any item from Antiquity or one that holds extreme Historical value ( and I don't believe Breezie would either). That being said this has none of either but still should be further checked into before any attempts of cleaning are started . Especially if it was found in a area rich with Archological finds . And if not this type of find thus can be cleaned if the finder wants to get a better look at the find . And as much as you claim to be a Numizmatka specialist you should know that . And finally why should Breezie come to Serbia , to argue with you about it ?? Happy Trails , Woodstock

Yet we all have seen the same patina on many LC and other more modern objects buried for much less time than the Roman period , but that's here in the USA and not Serbia . But I have to agree with you that it does have "look" of a Roman ring , but seeing that Roosevelt dimes from the 50's were there I think a "Roman" ring as your ID is simply out of the question , if it was found in Europe maybe . IMHO ,Woodstock
Signet ring was popular from Roman time... i think it is older than 1960. This ring had patina and lost it and for that you need very long time period or very sour or fertilized ground

By Paraffin oil do you mean Paraffin wax ? This isn't a bad idea and I will try it sometime . But first I have to find something worth the effort ! Woodstock
Dont clean it... it wont be so atractive and authentic. Dont know why so many people insist in cleaning. When you find bronze coin for example it have green patina formed for many years. If you clean patina coin dont have value for colectors, looks ugly and new, and doesnt look authentic anymore. When you clean it you clean his history. Salt and lemon? Geez! Worst combination for bronze or copper. You should use that if you want to destroy something... or for cleaning silver and gold which are metals immune to acids(without combining with salt of course).
You should clean that ring with pure(my sugestion-destiled)water and teeth brush. Just brush it for 1 minute than let it dry. After that put it in parafine oil for one hour. Get it out and wipe it with something(my sugestion-microfiber). You should have nice ring in found condition and protected/conserved for keeping, and also it will have some value if you decide to sell it one day.

What does that mean and why is it relevant when a tread is updated ? I mean I didn't go back five months to find it . And adding to it is what your supposed to do if you have something that pertains to it to add , right ? So really what does your post mean ? Who but you cares how old it is ? Woodstock
This thread is five months old.

I appologize if I offended you. That was not my intention. Sometimes an old thread will be brought back up with a with the new poster not realizing the thread has not been commented on in months and in some cases years. Obviously that is not the case here, and I am sorry if I have upset you for mentioning it. Best of luck treasure hunting, skeeter
