I had been researching this location for several years, always keeping it in the back of my mind, among the cobwebs. Yesterday I got a break with some information that came in a casual conversation. After a quick trip to the courthouse to copy the aerial map and get owner's names, I stopped at a buddy's house to see if he knew the landowner. Not only did he know him, he is the caretaker and had a key to the gate! Bingo...
The gravel road runs right up to the site, couldn't be more convenient.
Several old square nails is always a good sign, then pop, 1837 LC, then flat bottons, spoon pieces, thimble, another 182X LC bent, shield nic...then darkness fell...I called my hunting buddy as soon as I got home.
We started at 10 this morning and I was pumped, thinking, "if I did this good just scouting, we outta clean up with a tight grid".
It was not to be...at least not this trip. A few more buttons, tons of round bullets for both of us and ONE Capped Bust half dime...1832, for my buddy. And he even thanked me for the invite...dohhh
Truthfully, I love finding old goodies, but there is a twisted side of me that enjoys seeing my buddies dig good stuff too, even in fields I find. It's all good.
