Good afternoon, I went for a hunt this morning hoping to do a mop up of a site that has produced a lot of coins for us. I brought the Equinox instead of the Deus this time and took my time listening for and digging any faint, repeatable targets. I was working one small section of the site and got a consistent 19 - 20 on the Equinox. I found what I believe to be a farthing about 10 inches down.

The coin is just a hair smaller than a US quarter and is in pretty good shape. I’m having trouble getting a date, just like in high school. The coin is a perfect candidate for a peroxide bath, I’ll post more pictures afterwards.

You guys stay healthy and happy!

Great, sounds more like a farthing

Just so you understand "contemporary counterfeit" means made at the same time as the original regal issues, not modern.

There was a massive coin shortage at the time, and some believe nearly majority of coins in circulation post revolution were made by counterfeiters mostly in Uk and shipped into the colonies, and some can be more valuable than the regal issues as they may have unique features or mistakes, or things done differently like bad spelling or different faces etc, so the makers could not get hung for counterfeiting these area called evasive issues,

Thank you very much for the link and above explanation. I don't know much about the old coppers even though I've found a few. I'll give a read later.
