Lol, joke or not, that was fun. If it's crinoids, the coin shop guy either was like "yeah, I'm tellin this guy whatever he wants to hear and the sooner he's gone, the better" or it never happened. I'm betting on the latter, along with the detector going off. Common sense isn't so common these days, neither is honesty.
