I've been researching and old church grounds that dates back to 1876, where the Township Reunions where held every other year for 13 days straight with camping, plays, games, and alot of other actitvities. Well after a month or so of research and some time off, finally! from work. I decided to head for the area and see if I can locate its exact location. With alot of help from the land owner I managed to find the exact spot as there is nothing left at all to let you know that anything at all was ever there. The farmer was a little hesitant at first about giving me permission as his cattle graze in the area and he didn't want any of the new born calves spooked and run into a fence. Luck had it that he was feeding the cattle and said I could hunt for about an hour and a half while the cattle were with him. I spent the first 45-mins or so checking out a Beautiful pasture I though my be a hot spot but unfortunately, I was wrong. I started working my way back to the general area where the church once stood and started finding the general 22 cal. shells as well as old shotgun brass. Then as I moved up on a flat just above where the church stood
I got a Solid signal that bounced the number just a little around 59-62. Down about 5 inches was my first Indian Head Penny this year. About 3-feet to the southeast of the indian head the F75 pick up my first silver for the year also, a 1905 Barber Dime in decent shape. Before I was having to leave I picked up two more I.H. pennys a 1910 wheatback, a Buffalo nickel and a Gold Item that I have no idea what it is...The photo below show the area I hunted. The tree to the right closest to the camera with the Vine attached to it was where the Barber Dime was found the rest of the coins and the Gold Item were all found on the flat ground ground area thats about 30 or so feet in diameter.Hopefully my next trip will prove even more fruitfull. Ya gotta love this Hobby...I know I do!

This church was Built in 1876 but was abandoned in the 1920's and the building sold and moved. They had a township Homecomers Reunions every other year there for 13 days straight where the Church once stood because
the Homecomers had special memories there attending sunday school and church when they were younger.
This was done from 1901-1926 every other year. In 1927 the Reunion was moved to a Place that could handle the
Large Crowds it was attracting. The new place had Electricity on the grounds as well as buildings. The Reunions were stopped just a few years ago because of the few people attending as I was told by a older gentleman who
attended them himself. I havent asked permission to hunt this area ,as I just found out where this place was from
the older Gentleman. I figure this area should be Loaded with History, just waiting to see the sunlight once again!

Hello Everyone!
I'm opening up this thread again after 7-years of hunting the Church Grounds.
I've almost completed my Display for my finds,...All I waiting on is my Brass Plaques
for the inside of the dispay....I've been hunting the old Church grounds off an on for
the last seven years now and the finds are getting hard to come by and sometimes I
would be doing good to find anything that was nonferrous...Since my last post here
Several more nice Items have come to surface after decades in the ground, Including a
1909 VDB (no S) a Sterling Silver cuff link, a cigar token and a Nice barber quarter.......below are
some photo's of some of the items that were found since, as well as photo's of the display!
The Display was made of light Oak and assembled with box joint's and glue. It has a Golden
Oak stain to bring out the grain of the wood. I used brass corner guards on the inside and outside
to help bring a little class to the wood and to cover up some of my mistakes I made during construction
of the diaplay. I cut a piece of acrylic to cover the finds and wired five mini surface mount led's inside the
display for night time viewing...This was the most difficult task as I had to route out a channel on the inside
of the cross frame so the wires would be covered...I installed a female 12-volt connector at the bottom to
plug in the 12 volt power supply...It's not perfect but i'm satisfied for now as this was my first wood working
project in over 30 years....

The Display will be donated to the church that was built after the old church ground
church was abandoned..

I will also include a photo album with the display showing all the finds along with a

brief history. All of my finds will be included in a box that will be included with the display

That is one awesome display. I applaud you for donating your finds back to the church in such a beautiful way. I have had the privilege of hunting an old church and another historic site and also donated many finds back to both. It's nice to know that these items will not be melted down or sold but rather generations to come will be able to enjoy them and their history.

Beautiful display idea with the cross box. I missed the original thread as I was not yet a member but you pulled some beautiful artifacts from the old church grounds and preserved them beautifully.

I too applaud your generosity and creativity in giving this beautiful display case and the finds to the church - what a wonderful reflection
on our metal detecting community as a whole ! (I didn't join t-net till 2008 so I also missed the original post - incredible site + finds !)

Ya gotta love this Hobby...I know I do!

That makes two of us.

What's not to love about diggin' up money and other cool stuff??

Detected another 2-hours and never found another decent target
