ok you button Gurus, what do you make of this?

i found this button today at a spot that has been producing stuff from the 1820s till about 1920 or so. it is a one piece button that i think is military in nature. it is damaged and doesn't scan well so i will include a sketch with the scans. i know its hard to look at but does anyone have an idea of what this button is and what time frame it comes from? any help will be appreciated.

It looks like it's 2 piece, not one. And also, it looks like the Eagle is holding an anchor, not shield.

What's the backmark read?

i cant make out much. from what i can decipher it reads PHILAD-NEW?? i know its not much to go on. you are correct. it is indeed a two piece with the front all crushed in . maybe it is an anchor. its really hard to tell.

Yours is in pretty rough shape, but it looks like an NA 102 or NA 103 from Albert's book.
Most Navy buttons after yours have an eagle looking the other wand then no eagle at all.

NA 102: 2 piece, high convex with border and rope edging.

1. "Scovills & Co/Waterbury" rm; 23 mm
2. "W.H. Horstman*/Philadelphia" rm; 23 mm <------I believe your backmark says Horstman
