I came across this odd signed photograph in a box of stuff (obviously not dug up). Someone seems to have been preserving it- it looks like a publicity shot, but it is odd. It is 11x17. I guess it is intended to be an oriental style- but comes off as weird and overly dramatic. Possibly from a stage play? I can not make anything of the signature- I can't decide what the first name is, except that there is a T in it, then something that looks like an X, and the last name starts with a D, but I can't guess beyond that. There are no other marks or writing on the photo.

The signature is in blue ink- kind of looks like a ballpoint, which would likely date the signing to post-WWII.

Do any of you smart people happen to recognize this woman? Just curious.

Did some research...Used Google Image Search to see if there were any other similar pictures on the web and there was only one hit...a random German site. The woman in the photograph, according to this site, is supposedly named Ruth St. Denis. Unfortunately the German site said nothing about the actual photograph, just who the subject was. Here is the Wikipedia link:
Ruth St. Denis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After finding the name, I looked up 'Ruth St. Denis autograph' on Images and found an Amazon link for Denis memoribila. The signature looks dead on.

In regards to what Denis is doing in the photograph is anyone's guess..couldn't find any info on it. Hope I helped a little bit!

Excellent work, Nunzio. I tried Google image search and did not spot the answer. Now that I have the name, I found a similar picture online with the same weird fake plant in the background (I guess they were stage props).

Thanks Again!
