Odd Marble/wanna be bead?

This was in my clays. It looks like a clay of some sort; but it has a hole drilled into it. The hole doesn't quite go all the way thru. Some sort of bead that got mixed in? Just curious as to your thots....why would someone go to the bother to drill it?

I agree with the hatpin theory or something along those lines. It looks like the hole was made by inserting a metal wire before it hardened.
