Why not Lady Liberty? She's awesome and a much prettier expressive symbol. Besides, wasn't it George Washington who hated the thought of putting real people on coins? He was opposed to himself being on coins, as he didn't want to be seen as a king or monarch-like leader with his face on everything.

Guess times change huh?

George Washington was a noob and an awful general. He mainly did the bidding for the federalist party and Hamilton and Adams were the men in Charge during his presidency. People need to stop taking Washington seriously. He's too idolized for no apparent reason, the only good he ever did was +moral for continental army and cross'n of the Delaware.

Awful tactician, Awful president.

With out Washington we would have lost the American Revolution.

Washington was the one necessary person, his strong sense of patriotic duty to country his resolve, and ability was the backbone of the Revolution, he kept the revolution from collapsing, the soldiers loved him.

Washington inspired the soldiers and they fought for him the same Way Robert E. Lee inspired his troops and they fought for him and were willing to continue to fight for him even though the war was lost.....

No personal attacks on members! ...on Obama, it's ok.

No politics! ...except for the very thinly veiled posts and signatures.

Sorry I missed seeing where Obama signed up on TreasureNet. ...

Our rules say nothing about attacks on public figures......Didn't see anyone complaining about posts on Justin Bieber or Miley. ......

Keep politics out of thread.....

Signitures are not an issue....

Awful tactician, Awful president.

He did one thing right--he brought Von Steuben into the picture at Valley Forge who reformed the army. Yes he was greatly deified unnecessarily. Surprise attacking on Christmas Eve is not the act of an awful tactician, nor does an awful president get elected and re-elected unopposed.

Charlton Heston...on the front of the coin Heston and the words IN GOD WE TRUST and the date...on the back of the coin a hand holding up a gun and the words FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS.

Beautiful Coins

I believe the most beautiful coins the US ever produced were the Walking Liberty Half and the Mercury Dime. Not a politician on either!

I wish to go back 1920 when the half was walking liberty, the quarter was standing liberty, the dime was mercury, the nickel was buffalo (indian head). Lincohn was the only dead president on our coins that time which was ok.

That seems to me to be the best time too

mah oh man that sounds good, I too love the walkers/mercs. Definitely my favorite 2 "common" silvers...

The SLQs are my favorite quarter design by far, but they are not as common to find by any means!

If I had been alive at that time, hopefully I would have tried to warn people about the FED, while keeping all of my (real money) in 90% silver, and out of the greedy banks hands.

If I had to pick 2 favorites it would be the Walking Liberty & the Morgan Dollars. And in the interest of equality for all parties and keeping political bias out of it, I don't think we've had a politician worthy of being on our coins in a very long time. I would love to see us go back to putting symbols of Liberty and the principals my long dead ancestors fought for on our coins instead.

Also-do not forget that Washington saved us from simply switching from one monarchy to another. He was offered the position of king of the U.S. and turned it down. How many of our so-called public servants of today would do the same?

Make sure to hang around the Denver area and save all the 1916 coins you could find. :D

Whenever I find an Obama half dollar, it ends up being mutilated with a hammer and then thrown down a storm drain.
