NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

Haven't had this much fun since the first time i had sex....(i was alone ;D)...anyway...went to a bank in Patrick Earl's part of town ....an old bank in an old part of town...asked the teller...do you have any half dollars....yes...can i have $40.00 worth.....sure no problem....saw them as she was handing them over....never saw these rolls before.....they had cardboard on one end
coins 014.jpg
and...WOOHOO :occasion18: :hello2:...tarnished silver on the other
coins 015.jpg
do you have many more rolls....yes we have lots :o
coins 016.jpg
opened all 4 rolls before i realized they were all 1963 Ben Franklin's....and all were VF to MS.... :occasion14: :icon_cheers:....anyway ran to the mac for more money...went back and got the last $120.00 worth...all the same rolls and all Franklins....7 with 1963 Bens showing and 5 with the Liberty Bell showing....best educated guess....all 16 rolls of 1963 Ben Franklin Halfs.....320 f0r 320 :icon_cheers:
these must have been the original rolls from the mint....how else do you explain 16 old rolls containing the exact same coins....these rolls have been sitting in this bank for 45 years before my scroungin ass found them ;D....WOW my first virgin bank ::)
coins 013.jpg
coins 017.jpg
coins 012.jpg
coins 022.jpg
coins 019.jpg
coins 021.jpg
blue book says VF to MS...$7.00...
...now the questions...
do i open the last 12 rolls ?
do i cash in and if so are the unopened original rolls worth more?
if i cash in do i buy silver ingots?
should i hold onto them?
do i sell in singles, rolls or the whole lot?
man do i need help :tard:
does the price of silver affect these coins

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

LOL just plan crazy
i have only gotten 19 circulated franklins in a yr of this,
I believe i would have a heart attack if i found those.
And the thing that gets me
No one saw them in the bank, i mean come on you could see the damn bell
Anyways not a great find, an amazing find

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

Since when does seeing the bell, the lady, the old wrapper, the word "silver", the pre-64 year, etc. on or in a roll mean people know what it is or that it is worth anything more than face value?

So many people are completely clueless. Out of like the top 10 posts in this forum right now, you have a solid wl/ben roll... $20 roll... with "silver" written on it that was bought from a bank, you have someone who turned in 40% halves while keeping 90%'s because they knew THEY were worth something but knew nothing about the 40%'s... etc.

So many people are utterly clueless... including most tellers. Its sad...

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

HOLY S**T!!!

Oh yeah, definitely a banner.

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

..
Just nominated it for the banner!

This find is INSANE... perhaps the best CRH find I have seen posted here. And there have been some nice ones... including one from me personally. ;)

We HAVE made the banner before... not me... but us CRH'ers. It doesn't happen often, but when a find as good as this one rolls around... it IS possible, and I hope you make it.

Those coins are freaking BEAUTIFUL! I was thinking proof when I ran across the pics fast before realizing how many of those beauties you had found and looked at them all closer

If you are into this hobby to aquire silver as an investment/hedge... then SAVE THOSE! They are way to beautiful to part with.

If you are just in it for profit, then sell away, and its up to you on what you think spot will do to determine when and how to sell them.

Grats again...

Wow... this is the stuff dreams are made out of. =)

~Dave

Dave....was wondering what happened to you. :icon_scratch:.....as usual great advice
couldn't believe it when i opened those first 4 rolls....these coins are beautiful....
never thought i would find this many keepers...thought "the good old days" were over....yet my finds have become increasingly bigger and bigger.....i am hitting alot of banks looking for those hand rolls and loosies....thanks for the nomination....
Unbeleivable!!!! congrats on your JackPot Score
thanks J

i too have only gotten like 15 bens this year
thank God they don't look, don't know, don't care...otherwise there would be nothing left for us ;D

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

I am having so much fun reading these posts...keep 'em coming, and keep basking in the glory!

I do hope you'll tell us what you end up doing, and what you end up getting in terms of $$$. This obviously is not enough to retire on, but if you make enough to get something cool (vacation, dinner for you and the other half, nice vacation, or maybe just a good deed for someone), that's probably good enough!

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

How much profit, let's see. . .
5-6 dollars a pice on ebay, so let's say list them all in a single listing (which costs 35 cents) for 5 bucks a piece.
48 cent final value fee, and mail them for 90 cents a piece.
figure in pay pal fees
that's 900 dollars profit (or there abouts) out of sheer persistence.

or you could just keep them, and have a whole load of one of the coolest coins ever minted in bright shiny condition.
i would just stack them up and have them laying around like scrooge mcduck and such.

later cliff

i know that is not a gargantuate amount of money, but just the idea of a find like that screams. . .
BANNER!!

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

If you were to go the ebay route... if you list them properly... you can get more than $5 a piece. And that is just for silver value.

The condition of these things is great, and they could very well command a premium on top of silver value sold with the tag of BU or UNC, etc.

Or if they are in REALLY good shape... you could try grading them.

Either the BU tag or the grading route will be a slow sell. You don't want to flood the market and list a ton of them at once, etc. And grading costs money, so you need to be sure they will grade high enough and then sell high enough to be the best option.

Or you could try to find a dealer that will give you a bulk deal that will beat what you can get on ebay. Dealers like putting coins that are this old and look this good in coin holders, then write MS-65 or another good grade on them, even though they aren't graded, and write a WICKED high price on them. So you could find a dealer or spread the lot over a few dealers if you pitch it right and haggle, etc.

There really are a bunch of options.

I'm still in shock at how great they look and how awesome a find this... I can't IMAGINE how happy I would be if it happened to me if I'm this happy for him... you know.

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

I strongly recommend that you return to this bank and ask if there are any large sized dollar coins on hand. Since this bank had rolls of Franklin halves languishing for many years, unwanted and forgotten, there is some chance that the bank has silver dollars as well, moldering for years in a corner of their vault... Go!

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

So true.

If the rolls really were there for as long as you think, then def. ask for dollar rolls.

The odds there are any are small, but if they are some, they could produce some beautiful finds.

way ahead of you guys....when i found i had bought the last of the halves, the next thing i asked for was large dollar coins...however if she would have said yes i probably would have had a stroke :D
Wow, great score! I am very jealuos, that is one nice haul!!
thanks narthoniel

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

Just for info Unopened original bank rolls sell for a premium on e-bay. Sellers looking to score full bell line varietys pay more than just silver or 5$ apiece. I would try 1 unopened roll on e=bay before you open the rest. Start it for 100.00 with no reserve I bet it goes over 150.00 mabye even higher.
Congrats on a great score!!

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

Holy Benjamins Batman!!! Probably a once in a lifetime find nowadays! Did you have to pinch yourself to make sure you weren't dreaming? Hold on to those beauties! You have a story to tell for the rest of your life and congratulations on the shiniest picture I have ever seen on this forum.

i figured there would be some sort of demand for the unopened rolls...so i stopped opening them when i realized what i had...only thing is i have no clue how to sell on e-bay...guess i'll have to learn :icon_study:
i probably will get more by auction than selling them outright..thanks for the suggestion Ron

50cent....i must have driven around for 2 hrs in a daze....no idea where the time went or what i did for those 2 hrs...felt like i was drunk or high....all i remember is staring at those coins at every traffic light and stop sign....what a feeling....only thing is this find has ruined me....opening up a box of rolls to find 1 or 2 40%ers just isn't going to cut it now...oh well i'm sure it'll wear off...just haven't had the desire to even look again yet

i'm heading over to a dealer i know(not very well) who has given me a few good deals in the past and see what he says....i'm not going to tell him i'm interested in selling and i'm not telling him how many i have...just going to see what he thinks the grade is and what they are worth...i'll let you guys know as soon as i can.....

Re: NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

The desire to hunt will come back... trust me. =) It always does... it IS an addiction after all! ;)

Curious to hear what the dealer says. Hope he gives you good news!

I believe it.. I was eyeballin' :icon_cyclops_ani: a couple today but was too busy to stop(darn heating season)
Anyways I went to the dealer and hand him ten coins in an evelope and say" Can you tell me the value of these" he takes out his loop and gives each the once over and says "they're about $2.50 ea" :icon_pale:" I said "are you serious" he says "yeah silver is down and these are common coins. They're all 1963 and the ones that are worth money are like from th forties. A month ago they would have been around $10 ea." I'll check with a few more dealers as soon as i get a chance but what he said made it sound true. What a shame when beautifull coins are only worth the value of the PM content + face. Oh, well guess I'll be holding on to them for awhile and pass some out to some of my collecting friends, maybe do some trades....cant see holding all these for myself...they're too nice.. gonna take more pics of all of them together though just for proof. ;D.Still an awfull good load of silver for dirt cheap.
