NUTTIN' BUT THE BENJAMINES BABY

Haven't had this much fun since the first time i had sex....(i was alone )...anyway...went to a bank in Patrick Earl's part of town ....an old bank in an old part of town...asked the teller...do you have any half dollars....yes...can i have $40.00 worth.....sure no problem....saw them as she was handing them over....never saw these rolls before.....they had cardboard on one end

and...WOOHOO ...tarnished silver on the other

do you have many more rolls....yes we have lots

opened all 4 rolls before i realized they were all 1963 Ben Franklin's....and all were VF to MS.... ....anyway ran to the mac for more money...went back and got the last $120.00 worth...all the same rolls and all Franklins....7 with 1963 Bens showing and 5 with the Liberty Bell showing....best educated guess....all 16 rolls of 1963 Ben Franklin Halfs.....320 f0r 320
these must have been the original rolls from the mint....how else do you explain 16 old rolls containing the exact same coins....these rolls have been sitting in this bank for 45 years before my scroungin ass found them ....WOW my first virgin bank

...now the questions...
do i open the last 12 rolls ?
do i cash in and if so are the unopened original rolls worth more?
if i cash in do i buy silver ingots?
should i hold onto them?
do i sell in singles,rolls or the whole lot?

Good god man, this has got to be the most unreal score I have ever seen! I think that all of the rolls have been opend prior to you getting them, so I would just open them up to see what type of coins are inside, and then package them back up. Someone will surely want to buy them since the old wrappers are pretty cool.

Does the price of silver affect the value of these coins...I am sure it does if you go to a coin store. If you try to sell them on e-bay, I think you will still get some good coin for these.

My vote would be to keep these...this has got to be a once in a lifetime story!

these rolls are tear aways ..cant unroll without ripping them up...just like the ones from Brinks et al...thanks for the banner request but dont think i have a chance.....dont think any CRH has made banner.......have seen larger #'s of silver ....just never in the original wrappers...and never all the same coins...thanks stdevil

Actually, these rolls can be opened up. All you need to do is get a fingernail or small screwdriver under the rolled edge of the roll, and gently work it open. That is why the "non cardboard end" of your rolls looks sort of manhandled. I bought a couple of similar rolls (one end had been opened) when I was in Chicago this summer. When I got home, I was able to duplicate the "factory look" with some superglue, a wierd implement that came out of a hotel beauty kit (it allowed me to reroll the end of the roll), and a lot of patience.

Anyway, your score still rocks...congratulations!

A-freakin-mazing amigo What a mucho suweet haul I'd sell them as rolls when silver is up or close to Xmas or valentines day. you'll get the best prices at those times if you want to ebay them.

Congrats on a most excellent find.

If you can hold on to them you should for now.

Looking at the pictures and seeing how near mint state they are you would be doing the collecting community a favor by selling them to collectors instead of place that might melt them down. We really do not know how many old halves are left after the great melt of 1980. Many silver coins have values based on how many were minted but who knows how many survived.

If it was me I would examine all of them closely and pick out the best specimens and send them in a place that will encapsulate (slab) them. If you happen to have a MS-70 half you may get a pretty penny for it.

If you do decide to sell them I recommend doing it one at a time. I do not believe you will get as much for a roll as you would for individual coins.

Indeed. In that condition they're worth much more to a collector than just melt value. Awesome haul, it gives the rest of us hope that there's still silver out there.

Some of those coins look to be in very good condition! I would be very careful not to let them rub each other. Go through them and cherry pick the ones with the highest grades. Be very careful with them! Congratulations

There looks to be a great possibility that some of those coins are MS 64++. If they have full bell lines then they are worth even more. Is there a mint mark on any of them?

thanks Scott...also some great advice..i agree to wait and to selling one at a time but if i can get a good price from a collector i may let go of a few rolls...still to early to be sure of anything though...i'm not rushing into this one..

Open all the rolls (maybe keep one or 2) and encapsulate the coins to keep tarnish off.

Don't cash in too soon, I doubt unopened rolls would sell for more, since you know they are all 1963.

No!!!! Buy silver with CASH now that silver is low. Don't turn BU 90% coins into silver ingots!

Sure, if you don't need the money now. They do not seem to be making 1963 BU halves anymore. They will only get scarcer.

I agree, singles would be the best way to sell.

Not so much, but a bit. Remember, these seem to be BU Brilliant Uncirculated! Treat them as collector coins (gloves, plastic capsules, get a few of them graded, etc.) These are far more valuable than the circulated stuff normally found in rolls or dug from the ground. Find an honest coin dealer (good luck on that), and don't let them know how many you have found (just say a roll or two for starters). Good luck, and be a bit greedy. This is unlikely to ever happen to you again.

i think you may be right....some of these are in great condition but some have bag marks and all the ones i looked at had great bell lines but all have at least one small area that is worn...on some you can read "pass and stowe and under it phila." all of these are great looking coins

Jake ..thanks again for the advice ...i like your answers...i will handle them carefully...but couldn't help playing with them a little....i 'm going to take around 10 of them to a dealer and ask him what he thinks in terms of grade and worth...not going to tell him i'm looking to sell....probably check with more than one to see what happens....still not sure but will probably sell to collectors only...just haven't figured how to reach them unless on feebay...don't really like doing that though

This find is INSANE... perhaps the best CRH find I have seen posted here. And there have been some nice ones... including one from me personally.

We HAVE made the banner before... not me... but us CRH'ers. It doesn't happen often, but when a find as good as this one rolls around... it IS possible, and I hope you make it.

Those coins are freaking BEAUTIFUL! I was thinking proof when I ran across the pics fast before realizing how many of those beauties you had found and looked at them all closer

If you are into this hobby to aquire silver as an investment/hedge... then SAVE THOSE! They are way to beautiful to part with.

If you are just in it for profit, then sell away, and its up to you on what you think spot will do to determine when and how to sell them.
