Is the NRA incorrect in their understanding of constitutional law?

The NRA’s David Keene responded to the decision with the organization’s standard middle-of-the-road defense of the Second Amendment and the Bill of Rights.

“One of the things that people in these town meetings and other folks ought to look at is the constitution itself. It is possible and it is legal to put certain restrictions on second amendment rights,” he said, “but those kinds of restrictions have to be looked at very critically.”

It's tough when big holes start getting poked in some people's world view.

Imagine the inquisitors when Galileo presents them his evidence. Of course they have to tell him he is wrong but you wonder if deep inside they aren't all thinking "shi&, this guy is right". Best

Got to weigh in...........It says "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. Read that. It's in plain English, that means NO law may be passed that restricts firearms in ANY WAY. Seems simple to this guy. If anyone out there thinks firearms should be regulated more, then your thinking like a Communist/Nazi. The second amendment is, as I said written in plain English. It says what it says. Can't read it differently. If a Republican doesn't like guns he doesn't buy one. If a Democrat/Communist doesn't like guns he tries to ban them. Works the same with any item they don't like. Simple solution "Ban the Democratic party"

Really think "they" UNDERSTOOD him, tho...?

Wow! I guess I think like a Nazi/Communist. And all this time I thought I was just a Pinko Commie Liberal. Here is my reply: "Ban people who want to Ban the Democratic Party."

Pete, if that's the case than how were laws like the Brady bill and fawb passed? Why can't felons own guns? No offense but their has been restrictions on gun ownership for decades and decades and decades. Why do you think the NRA is saying that it is totally constitutional? Do you think they are incorrect in their knowledge of constitutional law?

Just as there has alway been restrictions on the first amendment - the old can't tell fire in the movie theater example.

The Brady bill and guns bans under Clinton were clearly unconstitutional. But crazed legislators can pass anything it seems. As to the NRA and law. They have hundreds of lawyers on staff and should know absolutely what the law reads.
The whole idea of gun ownership is to use them correctly, criminals and felons and crazies who have broken the law/trust of the public, certainly should not own a weapon period. Sorry to ramble, and I know things are a little different in metro areas. I'm just so used to carrying a firearm on my hip in the open every waking hour, or concealed with permit every where I go. It is difficult to see anything else. We carry firearms, rifles, shotguns and pistol everyday either in the pickup in open display or on our person. I REALLY believe that is our forefathers meant for us to do. This is a small western town and firearms are a way of life. Know there are way more then enough so called gun laws out there, If only they would be enforced, these terrible shootings would not have happened. We DON'T need more. Nuf said...

Ok I agree with you on the NRA. This is a direct quote from them ,...

Thoughts. And of course the Brady bill and the fawb was completely constitutional as is the restriction on felons and domestic abusers owning firearms.

Listen I'm not saying these rule are good or bad, work or don't work. That's up to everyone's own opinion. What I am saying is that regulation is completely constitutional / legal. It's always been and this is nothing new. Best.

Why does the NRA need to pay 100's of lawyers on staff? Sounds like they are wasting members' money to fatten the hog. The 2nd says, "Shall not be infringed." That is pretty clear to me. I don't need to pay a lawyer to interpret that for me. Nuff' said...

"Well regulated"...can you interpret that part? :P

NO but stupid legislators keep coming up with schemes that need to be challenged every day

As for Dano Sverige's Remarks... In the old days, all we had was single shot guns, times have changed.

The sign should be in EVERY gun show and gunshop

IF YOU VOTED FOR OBAMA, WE DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS,
YOU?RE TOO STUPID TO HAVE A FIREARM!

The reason the NRA has to keep paying lawyers is because the liberal left keeps attacking our 2nd amendment rights........We are tired of it, just like a dog, if you back someone in a cornor they are going to come out fighting..... Left keeps trying to attack the 2nd amedment a piece at a time.........

If a judge in court tells you "do not infringe on your neighbors property" does that mean it is okay for you to continue to grab it a piece at a time...... "shall not be infringed" is pretty darn clear to us.....

This is not the first time that law-abiding gun owners have had to defend our rights that the founding fathers granted us in the Constitution, and it won't be the last. It's amazing that the people who we have somehow elected to serve us and protect our nation, have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution, have never read it! Our elected officials are all given a copy of the Constitution upon reaching office, and on TV in one report I actually saw one of our Representatives throw it over his shoulder and state that he didn't need it.

As I have found before, you can't fix stupid. Intelligent discourse is a waste of time due to the fact that these people think they know what is best for us. It is definitely obvious that the smart people don't run for gov't, the all have jobs and careers.

But, once again we will try to fight the good fight, and educate the masses along the way.

The second amendment, and our right to bear arms was given to us by our founding fathers for the main purpose to protect us not from ourselves, but from our government getting out of control.
