Not only the FIRST large cent I've dug, but the OLDEST coin I've ever dug as well!

1824 Largie. In pretty nice shape as well. Private residence in Kentucky. 199 years old. There were 24 states. James Monroe was president. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, were still part of Mexico. Charles Dickens was 12 years old. Florida was still a "territory". Our nation was 48 years young. All this just puts it in perspective how old this coin and just totally blows my mind.
Thanks for looking and good luck out there folks. We have some wet stormy weather coming over the next week, so hunting will be limited between rain drops and lightning bolts!

That's an early date for your first Large Cent. It's hard to find them that old in the midwest. My oldest Large Cent (1829) was also my first. That was 41 years ago. Don't get carried away on cleaning it. Very nice find!
