My buddies and I got out to a new field today, but first my car died on the Garden State Parkway. I got to an exit as it died. I had to push it the rest of the way, (about 350 yards) to get it off the parkway or I'd have to pay a ton to get it towed. Got it to a parking lot, called my brother-in-law to have his guys tow it. I was'nt letting this get me down I still wanted to hunt. George came and picked me up and off we went. I only found a few buttons and an old looking trigger guard and a few doodads. These are pics of Sam's finds I took while we were still there. He also found a men's silver ring with a black onyx stone in it. His father Sam Sr put it on and left before I could take a pic of it. Not sure of the year of the copper as we did'nt want to field clean it too much. The rest of us only found some buttons and musketballs, no coins. I'll post a cleaned up pic if I get one.

I agree. Don has a plethora of knowledge when it comes to the coppers.

Well congratulations to Sam, I was just thinking that I have not seen a NJ posted in a bit, on any forum, so this was nice to see today. Mike, the survey is ongoing, if you could PM me with the county found in and any other information, like , homestead, work area, field drop, ferry crossing, etc. It would be appreciated for my distribution study.

The coin, although dirty yet, that is hiding some details on the Reverse, appears to be a 1787 Maris 48-g variety. Very Common

Hard to say 100% for sure, but here is one of my 48-g finds to compare with when Sam gets a chance.

LOL, forgot to say, the Lincoln head is one heck of a neat find!!!

Don

Well NJs he does for sure... but he still has to lean on his buds a little bit for some of the other stuff. :D But that's just the norm, you won't find anyone who knows every variety of every coin. As for myself, I know very little but love seeing the posts of the oldies and the discussion that follows. Would be nice if we could think of a way to keep it going through the Winter.

Killer Jersey copper.... The Abe head is way cool too !!!

Great finds....

Re: NJ Copper a couple of indians and a Abe head.... My doodads added

Here's my take today. Not much but still had fun. The one thing looks like a part of a trigger guard.
