My buddies and I got out to a new field today, but first my car died on the Garden State Parkway. I got to an exit as it died. I had to push it the rest of the way, (about 350 yards) to get it off the parkway or I'd have to pay a ton to get it towed. Got it to a parking lot, called my brother-in-law to have his guys tow it. I was'nt letting this get me down I still wanted to hunt. George came and picked me up and off we went. I only found a few buttons and an old looking trigger guard and a few doodads. These are pics of Sam's finds I took while we were still there. He also found a men's silver ring with a black onyx stone in it. His father Sam Sr put it on and left before I could take a pic of it. Not sure of the year of the copper as we did'nt want to field clean it too much. The rest of us only found some buttons and musketballs, no coins. I'll post a cleaned up pic if I get one.
HH, Mike in NJ

Too bad about your car, glad you still got out with your buddies for the hunt. Congrats on the nice finds and to Sam on the awesome NJ Copper :icon_thumleft:

Yup, it was me who got the copper. Thanks again Mike for posting the fotos. I still do not know about that Lincoln head. It is cast and very light in weight. The horse on the copper has his tongue sticking out but I cannot see a date. I did not clean it to much until I find a way to REALLY clean these coins without damaging them. Thanks for the comments.
DFX!!!!

update on the copper. It looks like it is a 1787 but is of the "Goiter" ? type, with a smaller shield with low point and high sides on the shield. looked in the breen book for a while. Measured the sides and height of the shield.

Sorry to hear about your bad start. At least you made up for it by finding those nice indians and that Abe bust (head) I wonder how old that is ???

Wish i could hunt in NJ. After all the coins i see found there. Nice finds. Best of luck. :violent1:
