Haven't been out much this year, but finally got some time the morning of Memorial Day. I went to a very small town and the site of a 1890's school that has been torn down and a volunteer fire station erected. This site has probably been well hunted - it was one of the first places I went with my XLT after buying it in 2004, and was where I got my first merc. This time I used my Bigfoot coil thinking I could cover more territory on the old ball field. After 2 hours and nothing but scrap I headed toward home. On the way I stopped at a 1909 house I've had my eye on for a year. It used to be outside of town on the main drag. Now has box stores, fast food and all the usual strip businesses around it. It has overgrown shrubs, paint peeling, downspouts caving in. But the grass is mowed. I pulled into the drive and parked beside the front yard. Knocked on the front door - no answer. Looked in the window - scattered trash and dirt. Went to the back of the house and found a car with almost bald tires parked. Went to the one of the two back doors without stuff on the steps. Knocked - no answer. Hmmm. Open the vestibule door and knocked on the inside door glass - a dog starts barking. Then an old fellow comes to the door in shorts and a t-shirt. "Sure you can look - sounds like a good hobby!" In another 1 1/2 hours (and after switching to my standard coil) I found 2 clad qtrs, 6 clad dimes, 10 cents (including 1913,1919,1944, 1945, and 1945-D). Just about time to leave I found the IH at the farthest point I went from the front porch - about 30 feet. It was 2 -3 inches down. I thought it looked pretty worn when covered with dirt, but it cleaned up nice with water and a soft toothbrush!
