I have been on this site learning all I can for the past few months. I have learned SO MUCH from everyone. Just reading other posts has helped me solve all the problems I have had and given me very useful tips. This is such a great site!

Now, for my first finds. I have an 8 month old- so getting a lot of time to detect is not reasonable. However my husband and I are taking the baby every Sunday to a beach in San Fran so I can detect. So far I have had about 3 hours out with my Garrett. Which I LOVE by the way. It has been so accurate. Sometimes it freaks out and bings all over the place and I don't find anything. I chalk that up to needing to figure out my machine, which will come with time. I love the fact that it is so lightweight and adjusts very short- as I am only 5 feet.

I went last month for the first time to a local metal detectors club. Tonight is the next meeting and I plan on becoming a member. Last month I attended the monthly hunt. These guys are so awesome. There were few people there (mix up on days) and one guy took a lot of time to help me learn my machine. Metal detectors are the nicest people. This might be an odd hobby for a young female, but you cant find better people anywhere. Anyhow, I found some of the hidden items and these were my prizes-
1962 D Franklin half dollar
1945 D Winged Liberty Head 'Merc' Dime
1958 D Silver dime

In an attempt to find the ever talked about wheat pennies I searched my husbands tin and found 6. Other than that I have only found random change and a large nail. I am determined that there is a big fat diamond ring waiting on the beach for me, so I will keep diggen.

Cant wait to learn more, dig more, find more, and post more!

Welcome to the hobby and to the treasurenet forum. Great deal on the silver. Yes I agree this is a good hobby for all. There is really not a barrier here between men and women. Plus the peps I have met on this forum are absolutely great.

Hope you the best of luck at your new hobby. Looking forward to seeing you post many great items over time, and hopefully me post some cool finds for you to see as well,

Welcome from Benicia!!

Just a word of warning on the beaches north of the gate, they are all federal property even stinston which is off limits to metal detecting. Found that out first hand!!! Officer was nice thou and did not take my garrett 350, Whew!!

If you goto stinson, you have to go north and park where the houses are, and that point north is open to metal detaching....

I work in San Rafael and play around during lunchtime at Boyd park which dates back to 1850s.

Looks like a great start...looking good for first time out. Like that pic too.

Looks like a good start. Finding a club nearby is usually the best way to get started, although sometimes you get nervous about asking questions face to face with people you don't know. Here's a bit of info on your detector.
There's a lot of good people here who'll be glad to point out and help correct any problems with false readings and such. HH and keep 'em comin'.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I am especially thankful for the tips on the beaches out here. Just found out last night at the meeting about most being off limits. I have gone twice to Krissy (sp) Field and dont know if its off limits. I am having a hard time finding on the net which beaches, parks, etc. are okay. Still too afraid to dig a hole in grass-so Im sticking to sand for now. The tips on the beaches are great- Im going to try Stinson this weekend. However- any other tips on beaches out here is greatly appreciated. I am in the East Bay so any drive an hour and a half or under is no problem. And- if you know of any group hunts- I am always interested. Getting to ask people questions when you are in the midst of a problem is probably the most helpful. Thanks for all the helpful feedback and links. I read them all and am gleaning so much from you !! I'm diggin this hobby!!!
