I have been on this site learning all I can for the past few months. I have learned SO MUCH from everyone. Just reading other posts has helped me solve all the problems I have had and given me very useful tips. This is such a great site!

Now, for my first finds. I have an 8 month old- so getting a lot of time to detect is not reasonable. However my husband and I are taking the baby every Sunday to a beach in San Fran so I can detect. So far I have had about 3 hours out with my Garrett. Which I LOVE by the way. It has been so accurate. Sometimes it freaks out and bings all over the place and I don't find anything. I chalk that up to needing to figure out my machine, which will come with time. I love the fact that it is so lightweight and adjusts very short- as I am only 5 feet.

I went last month for the first time to a local metal detectors club. Tonight is the next meeting and I plan on becoming a member. Last month I attended the monthly hunt. These guys are so awesome. There were few people there (mix up on days) and one guy took a lot of time to help me learn my machine. Metal detectors are the nicest people. This might be an odd hobby for a young female, but you cant find better people anywhere. Anyhow, I found some of the hidden items and these were my prizes-
1962 D Franklin half dollar
1945 D Winged Liberty Head 'Merc' Dime
1958 D Silver dime

In an attempt to find the ever talked about wheat pennies I searched my husbands tin and found 6. Other than that I have only found random change and a large nail. I am determined that there is a big fat diamond ring waiting on the beach for me, so I will keep diggen.

Cant wait to learn more, dig more, find more, and post more!

Hiya Lyndylou,

Welcome to the TN Forum, I have a feeling you will love it here. There's a lot of nice folks, and some very knowledgable experts in many fields that are willing to help us out most of the time.

Sounds like you are really hooked! It is very addicting and will become more and more rewarding as you get better, like almost anything in life I guess.

Joining a club is a great thing to do. Every piece of knowledge or inspiration can only further your success. I think being a young female helps with the popularity too...lol. Sounds like you have a fantastic attitude so best of luck out there.

I will looking forward to your posts and seeing all your finds.

Smiles!

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you had fun at the club hunt and probably picked up some good tips. Those big fat diamond rings are out there, hope you get one.

Welcome to the hobby and to the forum.

I had a friend who years ago took his son with him deer hunting. He had him in a baby carry harness / back-pak, but of course an 8 month old would be quite a haul.
Also I am sure that there are a lot more women in this hobby than you would think. In fact I am buying my wife a Ace 250 for our anniversary, as she has stated that she would like to go MD'ing with me.

Good Luck and nice finds you have there.

Welcome to the forum and as you have discovered, a wonderful hobby(addiction). Sounds like your not just playin around with your machine. Congrats on the finds and keep those pics rolling in.

Keep on Swingin

Welcome to a great hobby and what I've come to find as my favorite site to check up on each and every day!!

I've learned just a ton of things from this forum and there is absolutely no lack of people interested in helping if you have question on pretty much anything!!!

Joining a club is an excellent idea and it's great that you've decided to do that so soon after getting a detector - don't lose faith, you're gonna have good days and bad days, but even on the bad days you're learning more and more about your machine and it truly does pay off in the long run!!

Happy hunting (oh and that really IS a monster of a nail!!!)

Nice finds and welcome to the forum. Hope to see more finds soon

welcome welcome welcome !!!! this site is awesome....any questions fire away.there is always someone here to answer anything you could ask about the hobby..all the best in your finds.

rick....

and congrads on the little one also !!!!!!!!

One the 250 when it's going off all over the place, it may be mineralization. Next time it happens, try turning the sensitivity down until it either stops going crazy, or can't detect a dime on the surface.......

Best of luck! (No such thing as luck.)

Welcome to an excellent forum.

Looks like you're doing great so far, lyndylou! :)

I'm glad to see another female on Tnet......We're taking over! :P ;)

Welcome to the forum.
I'd say your starting off with a bang. Mona Lisa said they're taking over. I got one thing to say to that. huh !!!
Just between you and me. Heck! I think the women already took over.
And it's a better forum for it.
Is that Baker Beach. I'm in the east bay. So if I can be of any help as to where you might try, feel free to PM any time.
For instance, if your into beach hunting. You might go up and try Stinson Beach. It' a relatively flat beach with good wave action. So things can easily be washed up on the beach. But the south end is a park and off limits to detectors. But the rest of the beach above the park(or north of the park is cool)
If you get in the wet sand and your ace goes nuts. You might have to back up to where the dry or drier sands start.
I hear the ace doesn't always like salty wet sand. But if it cooperates, hunt the wet sand where you see little round rocks or agates exposed. As far as stinson thats where I've had the most hits.
One more, Try the south beach at alameda. All new coins. But a good chance at finding that diamond ring. Best of luck and enjoy.
Glad to have you aboard. It's not odd unless you think it is. HH

HI AND AWSOME START AND WELCOME TO T.N HAPPY HUNTING

Lyndy: First off, I'd like to welcome you & your family to the hobby & TN.

Secondly, If you go to "Best Finds" & under Old Tom's " How Do You Choose", You will see a King's Ransom worth of rings, including a 11/3 Carat Diamond. If those pics don't motivate you, nothing will.
