New Site Produces My Oldest Merc Yet .... A 1916 ,5 IH's, 15 Wheats, Silver

Good evening fellow members. I thought I dug the find of my lifetime today but after careful examination the 1916 appears to have a worn nothing there >:( If it is a D I'll never know. Only GOD will know :-\ It's worn down right in the spot where it should be

I've been eyeing this site for sometime but the owner is hard to track down. He has been remodeling this late 1800's home for many years. Unknown to me at the time he also owns a large lot to the left of the house. So I break out my 1874 Platte map of the town of Woodstock and suddenly realize that he also own the place where the Christian Church used to be. It was built in the 1850's. So now i have 2 places to hunt for the price of one :D These old maps, if you can find one on your town are a great asset in finding old places. I also look for the old tin roof's. Tin roofs are usually a good sign of an old house. However, I know of many in which the tin was replaced with shingles. Where the garage stands now is exactly where the old church used to be. If you look closely to the left of that big maple tree you can see part of my detector sticking out. That is where I found the dime.

I won't ramble on too much as I have a bunch of pictures to post as well. This place is behind the old High School park that I have been hunting which dates to the 1870's. While I was talking to the owner a lady came up and they were talking for awhile. Then she told me I could hunt her place. It is on my map so I know it is old. She is a widow and seemed real friendly. I was surprised. One door opens another one. So I will be busy for a while.

Todays finds are as follows.

15 Wheats. 1910, 1911, 1913,1915,1916, 1919,1920, 1921 (2) 1924, 1928, 1930, 1939, 1940, 1942, 1944
5 IH's 1888,1889, ,1899, 1902, 1903
2 marbles in the same hole
cosmetic ring
old rim-fire cartridge
1916S and a 1943 Merc
Some kind a token with a presidents bust on the front and a history about him on the back. Hard to read ???
Some old copper tin of some sort
Part of a fork or spoon ???
Copper Uncle Sam play penny

Nice finds. :icon_thumright: I've found a few of those presidential tokens. I think they're from a set issued in the 60's or 70's. I found the U.S. Grant, Andrew Johnson and Taft ones.

Thanks for the ID. I wondered what it was as I could not get it clean enough to read all of it
