New job in Tax Collector's Office

I have recently been reassigned from the Legal Dept to the Tax Collector's Office. While I don't actually have a cash draw (work in administration) there are 2 people who let me look at their coins when they have down time. They also set aside coins for me that they see during the day.

Aside from the usual old coins, what should I be looking for to 'buy' from the draw? So far, I've been changing out any coins older than 1970, Bicentennial quarters, foreign coins that have gotten mixed into bank rolls, and the dollar coins that have popped up.

Any general advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you. ;D ;D ;D. Your on the right site but in the wrong area. Look in another area mentioning coins. you may find the information you are looking for but in codes.

Kennedy Halves dated 65-70 are 40% silver! Don't pass on any 1970 Kennedys.

Thank you for the suggestions. It's been a while since I've posted on this site, so I need to peruse a bit more.

Re: New job in Tax Collector's Office

A while back (25 years ago) when I worked at a bank as maintenance director, I was sometimes pressed into service as a coin teller. Whenever a customer brought in a coffee can of coins, or the Coca Cola vending route men brougt their bags of coins, I was able to sort and roll their coins on automatic machines. I asked and was told that if there was a coin I wanted, to just replace it even for even. Found MANY good coins. Also if there were bent coins or foreign coins, they were to be removed and thrown in a large bucket under the counter. This practice had been going on for years. One day I inquired about the bucket and, long story short, was able to buy it by the pound. Made a KILLING!
I am currently saving back star notes.
