new ground.

The "tooth" is almost always made of iron, the buckle most often will be brass, sometimes coated with other metals. Some brass will shine like silver if you rub hard enough. Did yours have a green patina when you first dug it?

I haven't done anything but rubbed dirt with my fingers. Its still the way it was when I dug it up.

I'm hoping to find a cellar at this ol house. It was built around 1815 to 1825. And was used til bout 1960's from what I can find on it and what I'm finding around it. I know during the time they had cellars. It has two sand stone chimneys with probably around 1000 rocks to make each and the family cemetary has some marble engraved headstones in 1840 so they weren't a poor family.

That sounds like one hell of an exciting place. Your persistance will pay off. The site should also have a privy...that would be an awesome discovery! Best of luck, keep posting the finds.

I will I have permission for the whole 250 acres surrounding it. Its a lot of ground to track.

And I have found the privy. Lol. Didn't put much into that it has all kinds of old junk in that hole. A lot of glass and some iron. That was about all the investigating I done on it though. I will now that I think about that. (Google)....

Thanx. He said he's had it for about 30 yrs and nobody has hunted since he's had it. I can only hope its true.

That's a big area to cover, enough to last for years. Don't get discouraged, initially, you'll be hitting on the bigger pieces of iron and assorted junk. As you clean it up, the best finds will come.

Yea I went today. Found another button that american digger mag. Id'd as overall button from late 1800s and some lead knuckles I think. Here is a pic of them.

Here it is
