This is a two part hunt, the first was with my eight year old daughter LLK (Lucky Little Kid) we went out looking for artifacts in a local field and we found one complete Brewerton point and on the way back to the truck I got this question "Am I supposed to pick up stuff with holes in it"? I responded with my normal yes, pick up anything that doesn't look like it belongs in the field. This usually results in sorting through twenty pounds of rocks, trash, and misc. stuff on the tail gate; but we have fun. This time what did she find, a pendant/gorget with two drilled holes. I have been doing this since I was a kid 30+ years now and have no drilled artifacts yet! The second hunt was earlier today LLK didn't want to go with me she had to paint her nails for school tomorrow! I went to a local spot for about 45 minutes and dug .77 cents in modern coins, a 1946 silver Roosevelt dime, and a 10K class ring from a school abut 40 miles away (sorry for the poor photo). All summed up I had an exceptional weekend, now its back to work for another week!

That corner notched brewerton is nice, but that Gorget strikes me funny. I do not want to be a stickler about this but that piece looks a-typical in design. Plus the drill holes look modern. I'm not saying you did not find this piece, i'm saying there is a good chance that it might not be authentic. The drill holes look modern and have no patination on them. They would be nearly the color of the rest of the stone. Plus I see no visual grinding to form the gorget itself as to suggest it was left that way. Maybe it is just your picture of it, and this is my opinion and i'm not trying to rain on your find it is just what i see of it at this point. Maybe better pictures of the drill holes on both sides might clear it up.............................GTP

Glad you tried to return the ring, regardless of what the former owner's reaction was. You did the right and ethical thing. Too bad we don't have more legislators of your quality ... maybe you should try for public office?
