Relic Hunting
Had a free afternoon the other day and wanted to get dirty....Chuck Norris likes being dirty....figured I've used up all my coin mojo for the foreseeable future (thanks again for the replies on that one) and needed a relic fix so I took the drive south to one of my farms. Got a late start on the day and the 2 hour drive took over 3 thanks to the ever present mystery traffic on the Garden State Parkway....

All of our fields are under crops so I stopped by a small go-to farm that dates back to the early 1700s and saw that there were pumpkins planted. The farmer said "go for it". This field has been good to us, always find a little something....never a lot but always something. Found that he had put a deeeeeep plow on it when the pumpkins went in and there was glass and pottery everywhere and plenty of signals around to satisfy the relic urge.

Found a few flat buttons including a tombac, cool brass lock, a once gold plated copper wedding band and some assorted doo-dads....nothing earth shattering but I'll take a few buttons and stuff any time I go out....that's what I dig for

Cool early colonial flat button with a snowflake design......

Cool Victorian bottle stopper from Philly

Had to cut the hunt short and get home so I only had 2 hours in the field......5+ hours driving for a few buttons....would I do it again.....YES in a heartbeat!!!! Weather looks good for Sunday so hoping to get back down south to some early sites and beat on it like Chuck Norris beats on Steven Segal

Well thanks for looking and go get you some

I need a relic fix myself this week. Thursday's gonna be my day, I hope.

Nice finds! I really like the snowflake button.

Very nice assortment, I also would be pleased. Congratulations on a fine day out !!

Wonderful old relics mate. More than enough to satisfy the urge for historic coolness. It's not about the $$$ value of the targets. It's the age that excites me the most. That bottle stopper from Philly is way cool BTW. Go easy on Mr. Segal. He's getting pretty long in the tooth.:whip2:

Nice outing. Buttons are always a welcome find in my display cases.

"Like Chuck Norris beats on Steven Segal" too funny Lol! :laughing7: Beating on Segal is like beating on The Pillsbury Dough Boy these days.

awesome finds Chuck. love the decorated flat button and the Philly bottle stopper. Deus is such an amazing machine, even with just 2 hours you can have a killer hunt. Congrats again on some great colonial digs!

Those old locks are cool I've found a couple of those with the same design.

strick

any hunt is successful if you have a good/great time, then you throw in some finds that you love to find and it is what it is. the long trip there is filled with great expectations so you hunt like a mad man for the short time that you have. the long trip home allows you time to reflect upon what you have found and savor the hunt. you managed in a short time to find some memorial finds to add to your collection of finds. success is a matter of the heart no matter what others may say and yet I see a very successful hunt was had by you so congrats:icon_thumright:

Very nice!! Well done, congrats and HH

You're 100% correct.....1 button would have made the trip....that's the stuff that get old Chuck Norris fired up

Thanks Kurios....much appreciated....you're 100% correct....the old stuff is what it's all about, it's our history and I'll do my best to give Mr. Segal the "care" he needs :laughing7:

Thanks Trezurehunter....buttons are definitely a welcome find.....I'd rather find a flat button than a Mercury dime any day, don't get me wrong, silver is cool and all but there's no history to it
