I’ve always noticed the design since I first found it. But a few months ago I can swear I see the letter N to right upper side sort of in pic also but I am not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me but a possible? Design around the outside of under circle. Unfortunately I found it pretty bent up. Hopefully you guys see the picture set the way I see it. Also I’m not new to hobby but what kind of button is this I know they date to earlier 1800s maybe even late 1700s I’ve found a bunch in my times detecting they just aren’t like the later flat buttons from middle 1800s I usually find. Anyway could be nothing just thought I’d post something to see what others thought, thank you! 5FFD7662-3592-48CE-BBC0-F45BE7019BE6.jpeg5B2CAA44-57DE-4D7C-9CBA-EC66D829DFE5.jpeg

That's a late 18th century dandy button. There possibly could be part of a design on the front and I can see the concentric circle. The military buttons were not that large, so that can be ruled out.

Ya know dandy buttons I always thought had nice designs and stuff and not this plain. So I have a bunch of dandy buttons with no designs? I’m not questioning you but I always thought they were called dandy buttons because people always tried to make them fancy and ornate.
