Hello All,
I am stumped by a recent button I found hunting an area of Virginia from which I have found relics from the Colonial era as well as from the Civil War, not to mention the always present modern trash. The button is the size of a dime and features a bird in flight that to me appears to be a crane. The button is of a two pieced construction and no back marks are visible. After some research, my guess is that it maybe a Livery button, but that is only a stab in the dark. Anyone seen this one before or have a good idea of what it is?

Thanks in advance!!

Welcome from the UK.

I can rule out the livery button guess. It looks to be a crane & I would say civilaian late Victorian (1880ish)

Crusader,

Being that you dig in the UK, I definitely defer to your knowledge on Livery buttons and appreciate your help. The time frame of the Victorian era fits.

Thanks again. Happy Hunting!

I agree thats it's not a livery button...

But Crusader... don't you think that ,with what appears to be a self-shank back loop, it's probebly Edwardian and not Victorian? :P

Could be thats why I said late, but it does fit with the fashion at that time.
