Okay, I want any and all opinions on getting a new MD. It will primarily be for hunting an old town site . It has been a ghost since about 1950. The ground has been pushed around with heavy machinery in the 70's for planting trees for lumber company. I am currently using a white's xlt, with different loops. There are lots of rusty nails and debris everywhere. I am wondering what would be a better MD for this location. I am not a beginner. By the way, this is my first post on this forum, as I just found you guys last month. Thanks.

I'v heard the DFX is pretty much the same as the XLT. so In My opinion, the only thing which MAY be better is the EXPLORER XS-2 ......... You can take this for what it is , Just an Opinion from Reading Everything on the Forums & talking to those who have done the Up-Grade to Minelab, from an XLT & those who Upgraded to DFX, From XLT

I don't know that I would upgrade. I used the XLT and switched to the MXT and I believe the capabilities are very similar. If you upgraded to the Explorer 2, at least you could switch back without losing a lot of money.
Yet, if you do buy the Explorer 2 and ever head back to Whites, get the MXT. Supposedly a Whites MXT 2 is in the works.

I dont really want to "upgrade", I just want another machine that is better in the heavy nails and rusty iron. I love my xlt for most areas.

Have you tried the 4 x 6 shooter coil? It's supposed to work well in high trash areas. By the way! Don't be afraid to post your thoughts on the stuff you read. I think that this time of year is tough for all of us who just want to be out there detecting. It's a great chance to share ideas & swap stories of finds & hunts past or future. Spotz

With the Minelab Explorer II, you can null out "most" of the nails.

I believe with any machine though you'll find some nails that will think they are made of pure silver :)

Haven't used a White's but hunted with people who were using XLT's. Can't think of how much more machine you'd get for your money. Sounds like you're set and just need to get around a few nails. Good luck and happy hunting!
