Hi there. I just bought several bags with about a thousand buttons and am trying to pick out the better ones. These appeared to be older but was hoping for some help as I am a novice when it comes to buttons. The Virginia button is not raised as high as the guard button and has Supreme Quality on back. The National Guard button has in the outer ring Scovill Mfg Co. and Waterbury Conn. and the inside band says 7th Regt Standard. IMG_8246.JPGIMG_8248.JPG

First... welcome to Treasurenet's "What-Is-it" forum, the best place on the 'net for getting accurate ID (and dating) of unidentified objects.

According to a combination of the info in the Albert button-book and the McGuinn-&-Bazelon book on dating backmarks, both of you buttons are from the early 20th-Century.

The "NYSA" on your NY button stands for New York State Artillery. It is shown in the Albert book as button NY-20. Your Viginia button is shown in that book as VA-28.
