Got a new Mine Lab Excaliber 2 a few weeks ago and have been looking forward to hitting the beach to try it out. This week we're on vacation and I've been walking the beach a few hours each morning. Today is our 5th day here and as of this morning I've found 5 rings, and a ton of change, which I'll post with my final count this coming weekend. This morning I found this beautiful cameo brooch in the slew way. Not quite sure what to make of it, can anyone identify what I've found exactly? It appears to have 8 diamonds encircling it. Not sure if that's ivory or not. Does anyone know how to determine this?

There is no corrosion, it looks like a garage sale find.

Maybe it is just how I took this.. but in the scope of the conversation I thought the poster was saying "someone found it at a garage ale.. and then lost it at the beach".. not accusing the poster of finding it at a yardsale... just my .02 worth..

It does not look ivory to me either but a beautiful piece instead :)

thats a really nice find,congrats.

Is it just me or does the "C" clasp appear to have been added as an after thought ? Kind of crude looking.

Possibly the clasp is 1920's and the body of the item is earlier ?

Just a thought.

Jim, Thanks for your reply...After you mentioned that I looked at it closely and it appears the clasp and pin were added afterwards. Not sure if that makes it older or newer but thanks again for pointing that out...

tcooper, that is beautiful. Growing up, I admired my grandmother's cameo, and when I graduated from high school, she gave me one, but not HER'S! Later on, I inherited it (hers), and I'm still hooked on cameos. Yours is beautiful. I wouldn't begin to try and guess the components, but the setting is gorgeous. Love it, no matter what it is composed of. -Noodle - Thanks for sharing!

Costume jewelry, rhinestones and cast glass cameo. Mount is pressed brass. Notice the rhinestone mounts are a press fit. C clasp has been repaired with solder. Circa 1940s.

Nice find and excellent cleaning though it most likely lost the foil backs off of the rhinestones a long time ago.

Congrats on the cameo! That is a beaut!!
