Hello All,

I need help to identify an old cannon given to me by my grandfather (pictures below). I was told it is around 1600 and is a signal cannon but cannot confirm. It has what appears to be "SPAIN" stamped into it which may narrow the search. Please let me know if you know anything about this cannon and it would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ted

Here's an identical one from gunbroker site:

Repo or original, I'd love to have it

Great locate VHS... tis identical...

So... I will just say this...

"I rest my case".

I further lean toward a reproduction for this simple reason...

The odds of two identical IN identical for the most part condition... ARE... Slim to none... IMO.

I will also say... it is very nice... VERY well done and an awesome addition to anyone's coffee table center piece as far as I am concerned :)

And...

I would have definitely been interested in this piece just for it's "cool factor".

In other words... GREAT piece man.

Never know... I could be off on this... but something just feels funny to me.

Just does not have the "feel" / "look" of what I have come to know.... but again... heck maybe some weird under funded armory in spain was in a pinch an needed to slap some stuff together for a conquest and wah lah... multiple pieces are now floating on market...

Unlesss.. errr....

THATS the ONE you bought ? hmmm should hve studied gun #2 better :P ...

:)

They are NOT the same piece. The dragon decoration on the Gunbroker piece is very different. Also, the condition is not as good on the GB piece.

I'm with AARC. If I had room for it, it would be a center piece in my house. I would simply let people draw their own conclusion... The cool factor is over the top - repro or not.

Besides, you never know when you might get the order, "Prepare to repel boarders!"

Its electioneering season - could have used this piece to repel someone knocking on the door this afternoon for the most corrupt incumbent MD House of Delegates. He was lucky my wife answered the door and not me...

Flat steel sheet as used on the fittings on this piece would not have been available during the purported time period. The material would be iron and hammered, also, the thicknesses would not be consistent.

Handmade Repro, pretty cool but not old.

That's basically a one pounder.I doubt the stand could take it firing, probably flip over backwards with a combat charge of powder :laughing9:

The barrel appears to have been machined turned. The older cannons from that time that I've seen have a cast look. The fuse/touch hole is suspect also.
