Yes W is his middle name and the camera is a mavica with a floopy
I use the old Sony Mavicas as well. They take great closeups.

Most likely this is just some sort of ID tag from a key or similar that was used by Haselet. You guys are doing good with the research of the previous property owner, and are starting to make finds that provide evidence of that. WTG.

Personaly, I don't think it is a slave tag....wishful thinking though! It's a good chance it could be a tool tag

Agree'd - not a slave tag.

It's a stock tool check or equipment tag that was obviously meant to take numbers and ol' JWH used them for personalized initial tags IMO.

Could the tool check idea narrow down the period?

I'm guessing this item, what ever it is, did NOT belong to John Haslet of GW fame, but rather to someone of a later generation. My reasoning is simply that middle names were not typically bestowed on children until after the Revolutionary War and were not commonly used in the US until the middle 1800's.

John Haslet had two sons - Joseph and John. Joseph served twice as governor of DE. I don't find any reference of him having a middle name. Still looking for info of John II.

with "J" being his sons first names JWH couuld easily be either of his sons names -- one which was a govenor * it seems -- thus a highly connected political post (and very likely "mason" connected as politicans of that day no doubt sought out the mason"s "backing" while running for election --I'm sure. )

mason's were big in politic's during that time frame * --- being that john haslet had --two sons -- both with "J" first names --the JWH tag could easily belong to a son --- and one of the sons was a state govenor * a very high political post * ---masons often encouraged their folks to run for office and to be "good honest leaders" of the people and the masonic votes backing them helped them obtain office.
