Need help choosing a Whites

Sorry about the double post! When I look at the MXT Pro I see it comes with a big 12" coil. That is kind of a bummer.

Well...I've got a brand new Eclipse 950. If you get an MXTP w/12" spider coil and would rather have a 950, PM me!

I own both detectors. I bought the M6 new after deciding to upgrade from a Bounty Hunter 505 earlier this year. The M6 is a great machine and I was not disappointed at all. A few months ago I came across a deal on a used MXT 300 with three coils. I jumped on it thinking that the cost of the coils alone would more than cover the expense plus, they would work on my M6. Since I got the MXT (sadly), the M6 has remained at home for the last 10 or so hunts. I was originally considering the MXT, but didn't want to spend the extra cash at the time. The advantage over the M6 was pretty clear to me after about the second hunt. I don't think I could go out again without the threshold volume on the MXT. The one thing I do miss are the multi tones on the M6. I was seriously considering getting a new MXTP for the tones and selling the MXT300 - until I came across (another deal) a 6 month old V3i. I should have the V tomorrow and can't wait to start working with it. Funny thing is that I will not part with either of these machines. They both have their strengths. I will keep them both for backup and in case I have a friend or family member that wants to come on the next hunt. You can't beat the simplicity of the M6, both machines will run forever on a set of fresh batteries, and both are serious, capable machines. With that being said, if I had to do it all over again I would go with the MXTP and the 6x10 Eclipse coil. I gave the 505 to my seven year old.

A threshold detector will hear everything down there within reach whereas the M6 will not being a silent hunter like it is. I would have bought the MXT Pro if I hadn't bought the V3i cause just the multitone alone is one heck of an improvement over single tone. I'm very happy with my V3i now so I doubt I'll buy a Pro unless I find a deal I can't turn down ;D I have and always have owned Whites products and they all still work.

I recently got an accessory coupon after entering the calendar contest, Whites wanted to use my pics for the catalog and sent me a nice accessory coupon which I still haven't decide between the new Prostar headphones or a 6x10 coil for my V3i cause my old one doesn't work that good on my V3i and I really miss that coil for woods hunting.

I personally like the M6. It does not have a threshold like a MXT or MXT Pro, but is fine tuned to silent search at the factory. threshold can be a little more sensitive if set right. If set wrong it can have less. There really is not that much difference in my opinion. I personally run the M6 as high as possible on sensitivity while being stable and knocking out nails in dicrimination. I hunt for dry land jewelry using the theory that there is more $2000 rings being dropped , than $2000 dollar coins being droppped today, so I dig lots of everything. Anyway i love MDing. Good Luck!

Okay, I have made my mind up! I called one of the forum sponsors, Treasure Mountain Detectors, and got a SUPER price on a MXT Pro with free shipping! This place rocks! The price is way lower than retail and he is throwing a Bullseye pointer and a few other things! One thing though, my wife says I have to wait until after Christmas. I can't wait until spring.....

Really fine detector. You should love it! I do mine!

Of the 3 machines you're considering, I'd go for the MXT Pro. The M6 is a silent search (no threshold) MD which means you will miss the really deep targets. The MXT is my 1st MD and I still have it. It's simple to use and has great depth. You'll be happy with any of the three, I'd spend a few extra $$ and get the extra features. Good Luck

Will the MXT Pro beat the Minelab X-Tera 705 or Safari in depth? That comparison would be on coins in soil with little to no mineralization and stock coils. I know the customer service would be better with the Whites. Have any of you used the mentioned Minelabs that can give me a fair comparison? I am still leaning heavily towards the MXT Pro though. I called a dealer today and he said the Whites could not compare to Minelab in any mode of operation and that the Minelabs I mentioned were hands down winners. The dealer was a Minelab and Whites dealer and was not one of our forum sponsors. He said he has used Whites his whole life, but the Minelabs were better. I am very skeptical of what he said because he seemed heavily biased.

Pffft..I got sucked into the Minelab koolaid trap myself recently and thought I had to have an E-trac to get the deep stuff. BS! Not saying the ET was a bad machine, but it didn't live up to the hype! Not by a long shot. Of all the targets (not planted) I compared between the MXTP & ET. The ET NEVER once hit a target the MXTP didn't hit.
You're worried about depth on the MXTP...unfounded! I once dug a BB at exactly 9" (depth of the Pro Pointer). If I had found this little piece of copper before I ordered the ET, I probably wouldn't have bought it to begin with as the ONLY reason I did was the PERCEPTION of better depth. The MXT/P are damn fine machines. Deep, fast and like gold.
Well the Minelabs are at least deep!

With the MXT those small 22 bullets will drive you crazy as you will be digging very deep and there very hard to find in the dirt, I've dug some shot from a shotgun shell at pretty good depth also. I've detected with people that use an E-trac and the V3i and the MXT is every bit as deep as they are, I wouldn't trade my MXT for 3 of any other detectors. I bought mine before the MXTpro came out and it would be nice to have the tone ID, but I'm not going to buy the pro just for the tone ID. If I had the choice when I bought mine I would have got the pro probably, or if I was buying now I'd get the MXTpro. HH

Thanks Wingmaster. The one thing that intrigued me about the X-Tera 705 was the 3KHZ coil for it. Not good for gold, but from what I have read it is a silver and coin magnet with great depth.

The M6 is a stripped down version of the MXT Pro. I would stay with the M6 if you do not need a gold/relic machine. You will still find relics with the M6. I have owned the mxt pro for one year now and it is by far the best MD I have ever owned. I exceeded my nickel count in 1 year what took me 3 years to get with my other machines. It can find the nickels as well as all other coins. It can be a bit noise in certain areas but just be sure to turn down your sensitivity. you will also want a smaller coil for the mxt pro. I have the 6x10. It even looks nicer than my other detectors. I would never give up my mxt pro. If it broke or got stolen- I would definitely purchase another.

Go for the MXT Pro I'm sure you won't be sorry. I'll never get rid of my MXT I know ;D

I have an MXT and love it. I had a Garret 2500 and could never find anything. Sold it and bought the MXT.

I have the MXT. I'd go for the MXT Pro, it's simple to use and is a deep seeker. The CM Pro is a great value for the price. If you are never going to do more than coin shooting ( doubt it ), the CM Pro is enough. I'd still opt for the MXTP though.

Have a friend who uses a whites M6, he claims its a coin hog, and if your into prospecting or relics, to get the MXt other wise the m6 will suffice.
My wife uses a coinmaster GT and its no slouch. Its basically like the prism 6T but sells for less,

I just bought the at gold from Garrett and I've seen folks dig up small pickers of gold almost too small to pick. Little pricey but looks like it has great discrimination

If you want a Whites then you've a nice selection to choose from. For the M6 and others check first how many optional coils they offer as extra coils give you a different look at hunting and increase your odds of good targets in trashy areas if you can put a 4 x 6 DD snooper coil on your machine. As you can see I own Whites - customer service, quality machines, treat them properly they will last many, many years. Need parts, get-um from Whites.

Have fun, fill your holes...........63bkpkr
