Need Advice On How To Handle Confrontation

Well,....actually the home owner is responsible for the property right up to the curb. I suppose it depends in what state you live, but my experience has been the OWNER of the house is responsible. If someone trips and FALLS on the sidewalk in front of your house you are also responsible if it can be shown there was some negligence on the property owners part. He/she even has to keep the grass mowed. Thats just the way it is. Most home owners have insurance to cover such things. Its possible that this particular owner felt threatened, regardless of your explanation. Just let it go and move on.

Ok....I have to agree with much of what has been said on this thread, but even though the property owner doesn't own that strip, he/she can be held responsible for anything that is alledged to have happened there.

My landlord just had a situation at the apartmets I live at where a little old lady claimed she fell and tripped on the sidewalk in from of his building. Is he responsible for fixing the sidewalk? No but fortunately he did show that he was aware of it and had taken up the isue with the city. She lost the Lawsuit.

I would've said "Sure, fine...there's probably nothing to The Legend anyway..." Whereupon the homeowner would surely ask, "What legend?" Then I would say "The legend told to me by my greatgrandfather who used to own this land before it was subdivided.. He swore that at this very spot there was a burro load of gold coins buried by bandits in the early 1840's. But it was buried deep so good luck finding it..."

Dollars to donuts the irate homeowner will be out there with a pick and shovel as soon as you drive off ;D
