Went down to visit NC field hunter a couple of weeks ago. Super cool guy, went out of his way to help out a stranger new to the area. He showed me a handful of areas down in his neck of the woods. We hunted nearly all day - this was the hunt from which he posted a two colored unhafted knife, a rough flint blade and a great flint thumbnail scraper. I was lucky enough to find a quartz morrow mountain which is awesome because it is such a classic material and type for the area. Also got a great little stemmed point, looks like a true arrowhead to me. At the first spot NC finds it, tosses it to me and say 'keep it'. I tried to give it back but he refused, so I have a great gift from a really cool dude (once he said he was an Eddie Vedder fan I knew everything was going to be just find).

I really appreciate the hunt, had a great time and look forward to doing it again.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for posting Joe! I am heading over to Buggs island now. I have told so many people about that stemmed bird point. See you soon!!

That is a nice little point. Hunting with friends must be fun.

I wander if that small point was used as a blow dart? I had a blast that day. Just got permission to hunt a spot where two rivers connect! Great location!! Get back down here when you can. We never made it to the southern end of the county, and just do you know, the small stemmed point is a VA. Find. Every thing else, NC! Look forward to the next hunt bro!!

Cool finds, and sounds like you had a good time. :icon_thumright:

Great hunt with new friends. Do you remember Thirty7? He used to find those little stemmers and sent me some to bow hunt with. I will try to remember to pull them out. Nice finds and good times.

I noticed Joe called it a " true arrowhead". Were they used to kill big game, with a bow, or used in blow dart type guns?? We had a great time. Ol Joe is a cool cat. Smart cat as well. I enjoyed that day more than words will allow me to say. I was a bit nervous to have a stranger hunt with me. As soon as I saw him (hadn't even said hello) I knew he was good to go. It was apparent that he was a real enthusiast, not just a hunter or collector. I really knew he was real when he started scratching through the rocks that reside in the bed of my pickup!

I call them bird points, its a true arrowhead like he said, all the normal size points we find were not shot with a bow. They were thrown or whatever means they used to propel them. Bird points our true arrowheads are my favorite. So small and well crafted

If you keep at it more will come, trust me. You have to train your eye. I hunt in Northern Piedmont NC and have found hundreds of points / artifacts. However, there is so much white quartz that I kind of tune it out. I look for the greenish / blackish colored smooth stones (flint or chirt) I have found some really nice stuff. Hunting plowed fields, you will find many broken points. Some people disregard them but it is OLD history and very cool in my opinion. The oldest historical items you will find in the US... (The pic I'm posting is from just 2 hunts) I wish you the best of luck!Picture 7.png

I look for the same things. The green and black. I really think that is a bad habit. Just my opinion. A nice quartz piece can't be beat. Check this out!

Yes it is. In terms of age and how long I have had it. One of pop's finds. Been in his desk drawer for years. I put it in a frame today. Where it belongs!

Bow.He sent me some real ones and then knapped me some to hunt with. I find many but my area is different with hamiltons and guntersville points. Wicked. Yeah most arrow heads are just knifes but the knifes were used to kill as well like the morrow mtn. Depended upon what you were hunting I guess. Looks like you guys had a good time and scored.

Thanks Brother! You don't do half bad yourself! Lol! I saw a 28 Ford yesterday. I took pics of it and sent them to Kelly. I knew he had one similar.

Sad but true, I need to work on both of them as well. Could be worse. We aren't addicted to other types of rocks! Lol!! Keep up the good work. Let me know if you make it into Roxboro!

That's true about those "other" rocks! When I come up from Charlotte to go hunting I'm right down the road from Roxboro in Berea (between Roxboro and Oxford) it's where I grew up. Ill let you know the next time I'm in town!

Please do! That's only about 20 min. From me! If you know where the land fill is on 158, their is a marked quarry there. The land fill is about to destroy. Sad sad sad!
