Natural or Man Made?

When and if I go I will be sure to hold a sign with my username and a UK hat on lol.

Zachary, if the site is that convenient, I would make an effort to get there.
Sooner than later.

And document your visit. Any valuables on private property in Kentucky belong to the land owner, but with permission to visit, your photos and video are yours. Content is king.

Good luck!

Brother I taught school all year and do real estate full time. Wife the kids the home and plus laziness keeps me busy lol. I do plan to stop the next time I’m free in Powell County. Got a few days coming up this summer that I will have to be at school for a couple half days; I may sneak off then and take a look.

Have you thought about confirming the location with your friend?
Seems like something you should have already done.

I asked if the limestone-pavement exposure was recent.
Please remember to ask your friend if you aren’t sure.

As far as what’s under that tree, I wager $100 that’s it not junk.
Why not share the location with KY Hiker and ask him to have a look?
He would be my choice.

Put this story to rest with an apology from GoDeep.
I still don’t see any reason for your friend to lie.
Remember, that’s been the suggestion.

GoDeep will have to explain himself.

Somebody please take one of Hal's bets! (posts #14, 36, & 100)

It???s like being at the track on payday.

I wonder if that box contains old munitions?
I'm gonna guess that box was not placed there recently. I bet the tree grew over it and recent flooding eroded the dirt from the tree roots and exposed it. The pottery looking item is interesting as well.

Bingo my good buddy! Love reading your posts. Always logical. We need to get together sometime and do some hiking in the Gorge!

Thanks for the kind words...I would love to, one of my passions is hiking down there...so many memories. I am currently looking for a replacement vehicle for my SUV I lost in an accident last year...until it gets replaced I am limited to day trips until I get a secondary 4WD. Maybe we could get some close up pictures of that tree, find the key to Swift's Lost Mine in there and strike it rich? :)

It’s possible but I don’t think so.
That tree looks to be older than the box.

Yes, if that’s pottery, I would appreciate seeing some photographs. We should be able to identify what’s there.
The box is cool, but the combination is, quite honestly, fascinating.
If “QURE” is written on that box, and if its not the work of trespassing geocachers, EC. Mason should have some story to tell.

This is where most treasure hunters blow it.

Careful what you dream of.

If you can tag along, that moment of discovery is meant to be shared, in friendship.
Once again, that would be my choice.

Happy Memorial Day everyone.

Hey no problem buddy. Hate to hear that about your SUV! Yeah as much as I work in that area I have never took the time to explore much. Yeah if your free one day soon holler at me and I’ll make time to meet you and we will check out that site. If I had someone to go with it would motivate me to go lol. At the very least we could see some cool geological formations!

Looks like some others have cracked it's location too! Enjoy your trip to Germany and the Black Forest and take lots of pictures of it! My bet is it's a German WWII ammo case in the tree;-)

I'm so confused......

It’s on the Powell/Montgomery Counties line in Kentucky. I’d be more then happy to help get anyone permission to go see it if they would like. Nothing to crack I’m telling you where it is.

Man I wish you could just go over there and snap a few pics just to break the confusion. Plus, it would be neat to look under that old tree.

A local university, their geology department might want to document that limestone-pavement example.
Unless GoDeep can offer proof, I am skeptical that it’s anywhere other than Kentucky.

Anyone have a thought on the tree, properly identifying it? What about it’s age?

Get there with KY Hiker, record everything you find, and then give the land owner a chance to do a proper recovery. After that, tell your story.

Should be a good one.

GoDeep, that reads like an invitation extended to you.

The confusion that you are spinning will eventually have to be explained.
Tricky thing backpedaling.

I think U.K.'s geology dept. is well aware of the all the limestone in Kentucky. Our Bourbon industry is based on the assurance that limestone water is readily available before the fermentation process begins! Ky is a geologic crossroads of sorts, uplift and sandstone in the East with limestone plateau mostly in central region. The Ohio river basically runs along the boundary of the last glacial event that pushed Southward. Almost all of the state was once under an ancient sea according to geologists. Also, most of the state is riddled with caves and cave systems ie. Mammoth Cave and almost no natural formed lakes...most if not all of our big lakes are dammed streams and rivers.

No one owes anyone an explanation or will be backpedaling...4 steps ahead...
