Unfortunately njal - the majority of voter's put them in office.

The NRA should be all over those proposed laws . Criminals DON'T give a crap about laws !!!! THAT'S what makes them CRIMINALS ....:BangHead:

All those laws will do is create a registry of LAWFULL gun owners & permit holders which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL ....:BangHead:

The NRA is all over them. This is NJ not South Carolina. The NRA has no power in Jersey. The fringe right has little voice in NJ.

Survey says well over 75% of all voters favor increased gun control.

Christie hasn't said what he'll do. He badly wants to be reelected as governor this coming fall. If the election were further away he might veto these BIlls to apease a national crowd of conservatives. But with the election looming large he's more likley to do what most of his constituents want, sign the Bills. There could be some compromise, Christie being Christie. But at his point he doesn't need anything that will put him out of favor with the majority of his voters. In that sense all NJ politicians DO GET IT!

:BangHead: - My God, you can't even pump your own gas in NJ - Why in the world would they let you have a gun:dontknow:

Survey is bogas, who did they ask, how many did they ask, where was it taken? Results are easy to rig... Take a survey in NJ, population of less than 9 million and one of the most liberral states in the country and yes you will get that results, survey the entire country and see what you get.....

NJ far from most liberal. Still, the extreme right fringe and gun lobby has no voice here. Unlike the national stage the NRA has no leverage to extort politicans into doing their bidding. Here, the politicans are doing what the majority of the people want, not catering to a special interest group. And since it is NJ we are talking about, with laws for only NJ, the politicans did the right thing.

You pump your own gas?

We could pump our own gas, but we don't have to! We have people who pump it for us and we still have prices among the lowest in the country.

Christie definitely seems to get it. Unfortunately he won't win a republican primary as he is not "conservative" enough. That's what ruins the Republican Party is that to win the primary you have to act like a right wing nut job. Look what happened to poor Romney. He was a great fiscal conservative / social moderate as the gov of MA but the primary system turned him into a right wing nut case wannabe. Made him unelectable for pres.

I said NJ is one of the most liberal, I did not say the most..... Vermont has that title, but is listed on Gallup Poll lists in the top 10 most liberal states......

"Politically New Jersey is considered one of the more liberal states in the nation" Politics of New Jersey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Most Conservative And Most Liberal States, According To The Gallup Poll

A Gallup poll measures the level of conservatism and liberalism of American states, as judged by those who are questioned about their perception of politics.
Under this measurement, the order of the top ten conservative states are....

Mississippi
Idaho
Alabama
Wyoming
Utah
South Dakota
Louisiana
North Dakota
South Carolina
Arkansas.
Note that this is a list of five Southern states, two Great Plains States, and three Mountain West states (which happen to have large percentages of Mormons in their population).

The ten most liberal states are, in order
Vermont
Rhode Island
Massachusetts
Connecticut
New York
Oregon
Colorado
Washington
New Jersey
California.
Note that this is a list of four New England states, two Middle Atlantic states, and four Western states.
So the country is still very much a divided country ideologically, and in many respects, by geographic section!

TH, good stuff. NJ is more centered than some might think. Repub gov doing a balancing act.

Bottom line is NJ already has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Most of what was passed this past week gets a big yawn. It makes little difference here.

If you won't pump your own gas........who does your metal detecting for you????? BTW - No, you can NOT pump your own gas, 1 of 2 states in the US that has this ridiculous law.

Side note - Please correct me if the law has recently changed.........thanks!

R.F. nothing changed we don't pump our own fuel here in N.J.
Most times it's an attendant from one of those cave man countries.

As far as that other poster up there ^^^ saying that the new gun laws
get a big yawn and make little difference, well I have no idea who he is speaking for.
I don't know who made him the mouth piece for N.J.

My self and a lot of people I know are not happy with the way our Bill of Rights are being
crapped on.
The biggest problem we have here in N.J.are the career tyrants in our Senate. OPPS I meant Senators .
Almost impossible to get the incumbents out.

Pretty good with the cheap shots there ringfinder!

Here is one for the reading comprehension challenged - When i said we can could pump our own gas but we chose not to - here is what that means: When the law came up for a change a few years back there was an outcry to leave it alone. We decided we don't want to smell like gasoline, deal with dirty pumps etc. Our representatives listened. IOW, we could have let the law change but we didn't. Clear enough for ya there ringfinder?

Al, Cave man countries? Now who's looking down their nose? Little racist there Big Al?

If you don't like Jersey, as saying goes, don't let the door hit you on the way out! The legislators are doing what the majority wants. If that differs from your point of view you can solve all your idealogical problems by packing up and moving 150 miles south. Southern Delaware! Low taxes, chicken farms and Pumpkin Chunkin!!!! AND YOU GET TO PUMP YOUR OWN GAS!!!!! No more nasty caveman country immigrants to deal with! Could it get any better?

BTW, I speak of NJ not for NJ. There is a difference - look it up.

We got a good old fashion jersey throw down here. I love it. Where is jerseyben?? We need an all jersey thread I think. I actually had no idea that jersey was considered so liberal. Has it always been this way?

I will say from experience and having grown up and lived here all my life:

Jersey is most certainly not "very" liberal. I would say it is probably something closer to 55% liberal vs 45% conservative (possibly even closer to 50/50) with MOST common everyday folks being smack in the middle.

The area where I live flies the Confederate flag. I know of several areas where you can see signs talking about "tyrranical Govt", etc etc... I see Tea Party signs, stickers, Dont Tread on Me stickers, Tea Party demonstrations in at least 2 different areas (an hour apart), etc. Ugh, I have even seen Infowars stickers plastered on Stop signs. The other day I saw a guy driving around in a pickup truck with all kinds of vapid anti-Obama speech written on the tailgate. I could go on and on.

It is my home and IMO a great place to live.

Everyplace is a balance of pluses and minuses. We chose to live where do because of the top school district. That is - one of the top school districts in the country. School districts in the other state we like, Florida, don't come close to matching up. Living here gave us the ability to provide our children with a top education. That was the most important factor in choosing to live here.

AS I'm sure Al will agree, NJ is much maligned as place to live. But, it's not all Turnpike and tank farms.
It's got a lot going for it. Starting with 127 miles, more or less, of pristine beaches!

You sure seem to have a lot to say about something that doesn't affect you in any way...
