Late on the posting again. So this was 4 weeks ago!!!. Well plans fell through at the last minute so I had just decided to stay in but Sunday morning I started getting restless and wanted some fresh air. I must have spoke to soon about feeling better because even though I don't feel sick and have no other symptoms my ear plugged up again, this time mostly in the other ear...ugh, I see this thing isn't just gonna go away..

I normally don't say where exactly I'm digging but don't mind sharing this place. It is China Flat Campground in Kyburs off the Silver Fork American. Now there isn't a lot of gold here but its a beautiful area and I felt like staying in El Dorado County so I headed up Hwy 50 and when I got there i was the only one there. A little cold but not bad. I have been wanting to try out my Bazooka in this river to see what could be but the water was to high last time I was here but just right this day!

The best thing about this spot is it is park and dig. I was sluicing right underneath the bridge 50ft from truck :) Didn't do any exploring for richer pay just plunked the sluice down and started digging. Did about 2-3hrs of digging and the fresh, cool air was really nice after being in the house all day on Saturday.

Didn't get a lot of gold it seemed to be mostly in the top 2 inches and of course i didn't have a rake with me so yea I moved mostly cobble the hard way lol. Did 2 clean-outs and screened to 1/8 at the river. Then when I get home I screened to 20 mesh, just runs so much better in the cube that way. BUT like a dummy I forgot to check the screen before I tossed it! DOH!

I emailed the photos to myself to upload this post on the desktop. Hopefully the pictures come out straight!

Beautiful spot, thanks for sharing.

Just a little tip when posting bulk pics: add a space between the tags and they won't come out looking like one big pic. Very cool area by the way.

3 weeks ago:

This year beacause of the water we had i had to work a different spot then my norm if i wanted to do anything after work. Much further away so when the days got short it put an end to my operation early. I hadnt really given much thought to my regular spot lately but decided to check it out and low and behold there was a little patch of accesible paydirt showing, Covered by 6 inches of muck but easily avaiable. Got in an 1hr on 2 different days. The following week was the time change so im done done now.. Had i realized i could have had something going..oh well. I didnt run into my buddy ranger Craig so that was a plus, lol.

On the health side it hadnt got better so after jumping through hoops i finally got an appt to see an ENT specialist through Kaiser.. this ought to be fun..

The gold take looked so much better in the pan then on the scale but thats nothing new! But still if that isnt the best looking
.08 idk what is lol.

Nice Gold Erick, Ive been thinking for a while now that your good looks like more than it weights out to, might want to try another scale some day to compare. I know mine starts reading funny when the batteries get low also.. Hope you start felling better bud, soon it will be the ct sinus scans, been there man hope they can track it down for you!

Did a scale test in hopes of an easy increase in my gold take but alas a nickle test showed 5.00 Darn!

So the following Monday after my last post I got an apt with the ENT dept for Tues. They did a hearing test and my left ear was only hearing at about 50% and it doesn't feel nearly as bad as the other ear did a couple months ago. My hearing but have been about 20% then LOL. So then they shove a fiber optic camera up my nose to check for obstructions and there were none. It was not pleasant but didn't hurt much. Left the eyes a little watery though!. He said he could cut a hole in my eardrum but there were no guarantees it would relieve my symptoms. I could get just the incision and see if things get better before it heals up or could install a grommet that would keep a hole open for 6 month to a year. But also leaves you open to infection.. He was almost leaning towards not doing anything and giving it more time to heal its self....But then he said "but if its just driving you mad it might be worth it". Magic words..I said it really is please cut me LOL.

SO... He puts a little funnel thing in there and pours in a topical. Tells me to lie on my side and DONT MOVE!!! ..... ugh, easier said then done. I waited for the excruciating pain but.. there really wasn't any. Just hardly a pinch. Then he grabbed the vacuum!... Ugh, he had to try to remove as much fluid as possible but it wasn't really coming out. It hurt and was very loud. Then he sits me up asks if i feel any better or different. And I'm like IDK?! LOL. Didn't feel anything different really but he said in the next couple days, the pressure might be able to balance out. AND amazingly it has...YES!!!

OK, Back to the gold. It was my weekend with my daughter and since she doesn't like to go mining with me I had no plans to dig. A friend of hers was having a birthday party and she wanted to go back to her moms early Sunday rather then in the evening. So I had the afternoon free and guess where I went? yep you guessed it straight to the river. It was 2 by the time I got there so had about 2 1/2 hrs to dig before it got dark. Water was up at this locations so i was able to set up my Bazooka Prospector and start shoveling away. I had to carry buckets a a short distance and then a water drop forced me to move even further but still got some yellow stuff!

You are correct it looks way better in the pan than it does on the scale! Glad you are on the mend & felt up to having some fun along the river and got to spend time with your daughter even if it/she was at a party, it's still time together so enjoy every moment of it as she is growing up before your eyes!........63bkpkr

You are so correct sir. Why does it have to go so fast? She is up to her mothers arm pit already. When we decided to divorce and I moved up here 4 years ago, she was half the size... It hasn't been easy but I'm blessed that our relationship is strong and even more so then it was before the divorce. She is a really special girl and Im very proud to say I'm her father. Even if she won't dig gold with me, all she has to do is smile and its like nuggets in the pan!

Made it out on a Sunday several weeks ago and was determined to hit up the spot i had previouslly been with n01d3x. Its a bit of hike and I was loaded up even more than I was last time. I spend a good deal of time last trip poking around and then working moss with good results but wondered what my take would be if I had a game plan. So I decided to bring a very small sluice, 2 gal bucket, waders and my full size shovel. Big mistake. I hadn't given much thought to my wader strapped to my pack but should have cause it killed me on the way up.

When I went last time the trail was a breeze, I guess when Im with company your mind is taken away from the pain and monotony of the trail. So I get to the spot and since it had rained earlier in the week the river was up. It was more then I thought and I decided not to cross to the spot i had planned. Stuck on the wrong side of the river I saw at least there was spot I could set up my small sluice so that was a huge plus as on the other side there isn't. Wasted a TON of time trying to set up. The bar had just enough flow but no larger cobble so i couldn't get the dam where it needed to be and eventually abandoned it. I had brought the small bucket so I had envisioned rinsing out the moss in it instead of in a pan but didn't work as moss would sink and get mixed up in the material and just not what I though it would be. So went back to the pan and classifier only....

Started to feel tired and realized it would be getting dark not that long off and if something were to slow me down I may be walking up in the dark so hastily packed gear and for some reason I could not tie my waders to my pack how it had been....I fussed with them over and over and half way up the trail i was walking with the large shovel in one hand and a pair of wet chest waders in the other. I don't know about others but a pack is one thing but when you arms are forced to carry as well it wears you out 5x s fast. So I cursed my self all the way up the trail to the truck, ugh!. had i had video it would have definetly been a Sluice Goose moment, haha!

Really not happy with the take, nothing went right for me this day and a lot effort expended for very little gold. But it sure was beautiful and peaceful quit in the canyon with the river and the gold al to myself. Trees turning just epic.

Haha sounds like a day I had not long ago! I spent hours testing around a rock that showed good gold and four test pans said it was a good spot. I didn't realize I was only digging into a small pocket but after running 20 gallons there wasnt much to show. I retested a few times and realized it was just a small pocket. Dohhh! I hate that!

It's definitely important to test pan as you dig. I do a test pan about every 10-15 shovels, to make sure there is still gold in the material.

Nice, I've been itching to go back there, but have been sick and haven't gone out in over a month! I really want to finish cleaning out that crevice I was working, I know there's more there. I'm not sure crossing is going to be an option until next summer though. I've been looking and I think that a little further upstream, maybe half 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile, would be nice. I think that's maybe where you were talking about getting to the first time.
