Hit the airfield today for a couple of hours and found this cast iron weight. It is about 4" in diameter and has a set screw in the barrel to attach it to a pole of some kind. The item is solid and weighs about 5 pounds. Any of you ww2 buffs have any idea what it might be? Thanks Q IMG_0656.JPG

a bell(?)...like the kind they ring at a boxing match - big clacker hits the side of that thing....

Agreeing with Pete, but a step further...maybe an old air raid siren?

I am thinking this may have been a counter weight for the landing gear from an early military aircraft or one of the counter weights on a large steam type tractor it is about 1 1/2" thick and 4" round and solid Iron or steel.

maybe even a weight for the bottom of a flagpole?

Unique item, and the twenty is for size comparison?

yeah...or at the mess hall..pull the cord..ding ding ding...or an alert....what does the other side look like.....

obverse is the same, This is not a bell. I think this is a flagpole counter weight for a military honor guard or drill team, The weight is correct but the modern versions fit inside an aluminum pole the older version fits over the end of a wooden pole.
