Hi everyone. My son had a half-day of (virtual) school today so after lunch I talked him into joining me on a hunt. I gave him the choice of locations and he picked a very challenging 1750’s farm that I’ve talked about before. It’s challenging because of all the “junk” metal in the ground; it’s the kind of place wheee if you swing the detector once it beeps 4 times.
I also gave him the detector and let him swing it, and he did great. When we do this he locates the target and I dig with the shovel and pinpoint the target, then we look at it together. In the first 10 minutes he found a great old button. I think it’s an early 1800’s button, it’s 23mm and says “London Gilt” with some decoration on the back. (Shank is broken sadly).
Toward the very end of the search he found a 1962 Roosevelt Dime - his first silver, and our first at this location! It’s in amazing condition; the only blemish is in Roosevelt’s hair. The back is pristine.
Right next to the dime we also found a rose-head, hand-wrought square nail. Is it weird that I’m just as excited about the nail?
Thanks for looking!
