I found this coin in 1978 at a school that was built in 1916. Before the school was built, there was a saloon on the site.
The interesting part of the story is that my Brother-in Law found one there exactly one year earlier. Mine was only about 10 feet from where he found his. His was also a 2 1/2 dollar dated 1911.
Western & Eastern Treasures published the story on the find in the Gold and Silver Annual back in the early 1980's

I'll declare that one my favorite of the finds you just posted! pretty much because it's gold!! ;D

Sweet!
I love those older ones.
What denomination is it?

nice coin,

Another interesting thing about bk's story on the two gold coins as he once told me is; Gold coin found by relative. Detectorist swarm the school grounds, No more are found. Then 1 year to the day bk finds his gold coin within 10 feet of where the first was found. In the school yard right near the old flag pole. Once more there is a mad rush of detectorists to the school grounds. Can you imagine what that school yard looked like after these coins were found? ;)

Woooooow bk, you are one up on me ;D I'm yet to find my first Gooold,
I would have to frame it if I be so lucky to find one.
Love those Indians and eagles. Hope you find more.

That must of been one great feeling digging that coin.

Did you post that experience?

Zeb,
The story about this coin was published in an old issue of the Gold and Silver Annual back in the early 80's. I don't have the magazine any more. But there is some irony to this find. I have two brother-in-laws who used to detect. One of them found a 1911 2 1/2 coin a year earlier in the same spot. My other Brother-in-law and I, and our wives, went to a town about 80 miles from here for a little summer picnic and a little detecting. It was a sweltering hot day, so we decided to quit for the day and go home.
Later that afternoon I called him and told him to meet me at a park after it cooled off. The park was located across the street from where the coin was found. We had a little bet going with one another that the first person to find an old coin had to buy the other a "cold one".
After detecting in the park for a while and not finding anything, I decided to check the school yard. One of the first signals I got was the gold coin. (It was found only about 10 feet from where my other Brother-in-law found his the year before).
I hollered to my Brother-in-law that I found a coin. He yelled back "It has to be an old one". I yelled back, "Does a gold coin count?"
You should have seen his eyes light up. I wish I had a pic of that. LOL.
Thats the story.

BEAUTIFUL!! let me wipe the drool off of my keyboard...WoW
